I can tell you as someone who read the papers on very early deepfakes and AI video generation with amazement followed by dread, this is going to be feasible on a large scale in a short period of time. Researchers do stuff on an absolute shoestring budget usually, it’s incomparable to what large companies and governments have at their disposal. There are already consumer products that were able to become fairly precise motion sensors with just a firmware update. Next gen devices will be built with motion fingerprinting in mind, I can almost guarantee it.

As much as people joke about stuff like this, a University’s music program or something could probably take advantage of something like that.

At work, we used to get the discounted NetJets subscriptions (still like $15k) from Costco because it was a crazy good deal and we would charter flights for some emergency issues where it made financial sense to use a private/charter flight to get on-site faster because the issue is costing $20-50k/minute of downtime.

Sure, your average person isn’t taking advantage of those deals, but someone does or else Costco wouldn’t offer them.

There’s a part of me that wants to believe that Trump is basically a double agent meant to be so blatantly corrupt and awful, taking advantage of every system in the US, that it finally wakes the US up and to realize how fucking awful everything actually is, almost like penetration testing.

Unironically, Senator Armstrong would have been far better than anything we’ve been stuck with in the past 30 years. Starting forever wars, war crimes, shady MIC dealings, and trafficking minors is just par for the presidency at this point, and he at least holds to his principles. Really, he could easily run as a centrist Dem since he wasn’t raping the kids and just making child soldiers from them.

Even if he wasn’t planning on it, the thought process always seems to be there. “They’re going to round us up into camps (because that’s what I would do in that position)” “They’re going to start a war to stay in power (because that’s what I would do in that position)”. Yup. Had no issue following the direction driving in the city in Japan, but going out to the mountains there were a couple times where I turned onto an unmarked road and went the wrong way for a bit. Hopefully I didn’t spook anyone too badly.
