Bandcamp was really good. It’s still going but it’s kind of a corpse animated by capitalism now. You get drm free music and sometimes musicians will like do listening parties or chat or other fun stuff.

Does it really matter in a development enviroment?

Yes 100%. There’s a good chance whatever you’re working on with be on Linux, so being on windows locally is just an extra layer for problems to manifest. Plus windows is just weird compared to everything else.

I don’t want to fuss with the OS. I just want the basics like ~, cat, grep, curl, etc to work. I don’t want OneDrive. You can go get tooling to make windows more linux-like but, like, why half ass it.

With containers I guess it matters less. You could have a Windows host and Linux container, and probably not cause any problems with case folding or line feeds, but again: why half ass it.

Do you do software development work?

I’m not that kind of computer person so I can’t speak confidently on the specifics. I imagine it might be a factor that windows is just more familiar to many people, lots of enterprise software was already written for this task, and common problems were solved.

A user in linux without admin rights is pretty limited in what they can do.

Windows isn’t really fit for development (outside of windows-specific targets), so. And it kind of sucks for just day to day usage. And most IT departments aren’t great, so linux is out.

When I tried Percy it was really bad. I think it wasn’t even doing real screenshots, but some horrible serialization of the dom nonsense. Some of what came out of their tests just wasn’t accurate at all.

Every time I’ve tried to implement visual tests it’s a bad time.

A good unit test encodes intent. This kind of test, and snapshot tests, tends to be too broad. Something changed but was it on purpose? I dunno maybe just accept it. People don’t look at it closely. It’s numbing.

As others have said, you probably want to stop having shit randomly shared in multiple places. If you change something used in more than one place, probably manually check.

Interesting. I find that where I work, often the biggest problems are non-technical. It’s the upper manager that says “we don’t have time for automated testing” and then our releases take two days of manual testing and bug fixing.

I played paintball once and they had a “tag them out” rule. I snuck up on someone and tagged them. Pretty satisfying. Then I got shot with a paintball while standing there smug.

I should ask the local pizza shop owner about this. He was pretty anti zohran. He said it’s because he grew up in a post Soviet country, and believed socialism would turn into poverty for all.

I remember my child mind being blown when some clothing store my mom took me to had two giant mirrors facing each other. I guess it was so you could see how you looked with their outfits, but I was amazed by the infinite hall of me.
