  • I have a 28 inch 4k monitor specifically for my ps5, since i prefer 1440p ultrawide on the pc side, and the pixel density is definitely nice. For shits and giggles i tried to look as closely as possible at the screen and couldn’t spot the individual pixels. Something i also like about it is that even games that don’t run at native res still look like they are native when the ps5 upscales it. Either the upscaling is really good, or maybe it’s just not noticable because of the smaller screen size. Either way it looks really good.

  • Do you actually need the ram upgrade? Cause if not you might as well wait until you upgrade to a new platform. I went from 16gb to 32gb of ram purely because i still had my old ram laying around from a previous build and decided to throw it in (yeah i know mixed ram is bad and all but i haven’t had any problems so far and i didn’t have to sacrifice that much mhz for it) and if i’m being honest, so far i haven’t felt like i needed 32gb at all. The most i’ve probably done with it is allocate more ram to my vm, which also doesn’t really need that much for my usecase either.

  • Depends on the game. Bottleneck shouldn’t give you increased stuttering or anything i don’t think, but you’re just leaving potential performance on the table cause the gpu can’t fully stretch its legs. When i went from a vega 64 to a 6950xt, at 3440×1440, i noticed an uplift but depending on the game it wasn’t as big as i thought it would be. Then i upgraded my cpu from a 3900x to a 5800x3d and in gta online my fps doubled. Went from barely hitting 60 to 100+ fps

  • Yeah this happened a while ago, it’s been in stable since 25.05 i think. Nixgl isn’t really a good solution for me though, but luckily i recently found another option of populating the /run directory with the nix drivers, the same way nixos does it. This seems to solve all the issues i had and makes nix on non-nixos much more powerfull to me. Since i can install game launchers and entire compositors with it, and programs that require the native system drivers will still be able to work inside of that nix-installed compositor. I’m thinking of switching back to void now and i’m working on a non-nix home manager setup.

  • From my understanding atleast 1440p or up is the ideal resolution for these technologies to upscale to 4k, but honestly i personally have no idea how it actually looks. I only ever tried fsr on my old vega card once with cyberpunk, but that was 1080p upscaled to 1440p and it looked pretty bad, really had that smeary vaseline look, but like i said, that was a lower resolution and also fsr 1. I think the only way to find out is to see for yourself if you are okay with how it looks. I don’t know if you have the room for it, but maybe you could keep the old 1440p monitor around just for gaming if you end up disliking fsr?
