Not sure who KRS One is, but that was rather insightful. Never thought of it like that
That isn’t really what I was questioning there. I was just wondering what makes race. One might associate, for instance, skin colour to race. But skin colour is more of a… idk, a range? It’s not just two different things, black and white. There are darker skin tones, and lighter ones. It’s a scale, really. So if we were to take skin colour as defining race, one would have to draw a line somewhere, where one becomes dark enough to be deemed Black (assuming you’re taking skin colour as the indicator for race, that is). And that doesn’t even account for other races one might see. If one, for instance, were to imagine Asian as a race (idk if it is. Is it?), Asians are (generally) white, no? As far as skin colour. Like, what is it that defines a race?
lossless recompression of existing JPEG Uh… how does it make a JPEG lossless? Or is it lossless in that it makes a JXL out of a JPEG without affecting the original JPEG quality (i.e. no further loss beyond JPEG’s)?
Being able to turn JPEGs into JXLs and JXLs back to JPEGs is cool, though
What’s with the AVIF thing? Yet another I am unfamiliar with (all I know about image formats is JPG = worse quality, PNG = better quality, GIF = animated (and something WebP. Idk much about that one either))
Also, in my research, I’ve found something about the distinction between lossless JXL vs lossy JXL. Seems like you wouldn’t be able to tell if the image is lossy or lossless just from it being a JXL
Why are they trying to make it happen, and why it no work? Is JXL better than PNG? Maybe I need to do some research to better learn the difference
Interestingly, I downloaded GNOME’s pride month wallpaper to see what it looked like, and the files were JXL. Never seen them in the wild before that
Now if anyone don’t mind explaining, PNG vs JXL?
?Pork ay know lows doughs?
Maybe I’ll consider a PieFed account. I might also consider just using neither, given I don’t even get that much out of Lemmy itself. I just browse what’s popular in what is probably an attempt to occupy time, which I guess could be better spent elsewhere. What would you say are the main differences between PieFed and Lemmy?
As for Wikipedia, not sure if they have an rss. You could also look into Wikinews, their ‘news’ sister project under Wikimedia. There’s probably more activity there over Wikipedia
Thing with PieFed is it don’t really have an app. I found Interstellar to be a bit too complicated, or too feature-heavy? Barely used it, though. I like Jerboa’s simplicity. Non-US instances are nice, too. I ended up choosing an American* one, it seems, though I dunno what it got, so I dunno that it’s 'Murica-centric
I get some news via short daily podcasts or Wikipedia’s homepage. Or Lemmy. Though my podcasts have taken to mentioning the US president rather often this year, which goes to show the US influence on the world. But at least it don’t bombard me like Lemmy
Wish Jerboa had that. But I’ve read it is not on their plans, as it is a hack done by others on top of Lemmy, due to a lack of official support from Lemmy itself (not a Lemmy feature, just a workaround by other app developers)
Eh, I don’t have any community I’m particularly interested in so as to subscribe. I just see what’s popular. I guess it’s a way to fill time (or waste it)
Let’em cope.
Seriously, though, they must comprehend that one might not want to be bombarded with their news and politics. I doubt they’d enjoy every other post being about Honduras or wherever, and their president and news and politics, and everything centric to a country they don’t particularly care about
Wish there were topics or categories, such that we could block that instead. Would make it easier
I like Jerboa for its simplicity, but it lacks keyword blocking. I also don’t particularly have any community I’d like to follow. I just see what’s popular. All the more reason to leave Lemmy, take up grass-touching instead
❌ Touchscreen ✅ Touch grass
Indeed. Sometimws I do feel like I just wanna go “fuck technology” and touch some grass instead. Disconnecting more is good, actually. So, yeah, grass is often better than Lemmy (for me at least).
I do be comming back here, though. Addicted to Lemmy, lol. Or to any source of entertainment, I guess. Something to fill my time
I’m more of a Jerboa user, not really web. But thanks anyway!
Unfortunate downside is you will miss other posts from a community, and US is always bound to show up in unrelated communities. I especially remember, albeit in Reddit, a photo of the now-president came out, and was everywhere. The damn gaming community had it posted. Like, wtf? The same one, everywhere. Not Lemmy, of course, but still. If there was a list anywhere of ones I could safely block without much side effects. Not even necessarily politics, but some may be specific to places I do not live in
Seems I have already gotten to that one. Thanks anyway!
Oh, I think I’m familiar with that “chorus” (?). Maybe it was featured on Djs From Mars’ The History of Hip Hop. It was also sampled in Timmy Trumpet, Marnik & Ely Oaks’ Sound of da Police (with DES3ETT)
