Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What can you say about Cormac McCarthy's book - The Road?
7·1 month agoThe writing style is not for me. I only finished it by force of willpower.
The boy said OK. The man said OK. They looked at each other. They looked the other way they walked. They stopped and drank some water. The man said ok.
The half-toning here (particularly the hair) makes a very nifty moire pattern on my phone that changes with scale. Fun
It’s not identical to grilling or a real rotating schawarma. But it’s better at producing char than normal baking.
Broil setting in the oven (turns on heating element on the top) gives direct heat like a grill.

Escape velocity does scale with (square root of) radius so its not a dumb thought.
And I’m not a rocket surgeon but I could imagine earth rockets might be operating near some physical limits that make a 50% increase (or whatever) infeasible.
Is this better if I know who Jonah is?
Can I get this for sts2 please

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your cheap, but not miserable, recipes?
5·5 months agoUsually when people say “pulse” in this context they’re talking about lentils.
In my search for a reference for you, I discovered that it’s a bit more complicated than that, and many beans are considered pulses too.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is there a way to install Windows 11, somewhat bloatware/AI free? (It's for college.)
3·5 months agoSome professional software licensing options dint work in vms, either.
Solidworks single-seat licenses won’t activate in a VM, for instance.
Not saying that’s OPs specific use case, but it’s an example of another constraint

politics @lemmy.world•Why the Supreme Court Is Giving ICE So Much Power; The Constitution inarguably applies to federal immigration agents—but the Supreme Court has taken away the hope of ever holding them to that standard
3·6 months agoYou said “in 2025” so that’s why I said “current.”
The article references two decisions - one from 2022 and one from 1984. The 1984 decision is just as problematic as the 2022 decision (and together they are super bad, of course), and that one wasn’t from today’s court.
So I think what you’re saying is that we shouldn’t give any real weight to this court’s decisions, and that someday a more reasonable court will find them as absurd as the rest of us do? If so, I agree. But today we’re still living in their world.

6·6 months agoAre you saying that it’s realistic to expect that the current Supreme Court would overturn these decisions?

I’m just saying you could slip in a bite of beef jerky or raw-dog some Gatorade powder once in a while
