Correct.
But an entity like an HOA is much more likely to care about something being illegal than me thinking that it is bad for society.

I have a web browser, was able to view the contents of the post that way.

I was asking a friend of mine who leans more on the pro-Flock side of things and he said that Flock cameras are generally constitutional so long as they’re only covering public property.
Covering a pool on private property seems to be illegal, unless something in the lease would have granted consent for that level of surveillance.

sighs Okay, I guess I’ll download ANOTHER version of Qwen onto my computer.

I tried reading this article and was so confused by its brevity until I realized that it’s just paywalled lol

You think this issue just fell out of a coconut tree?
PBS had quite a lot of time before the 2024 Trump administration to get this figured out, and they didn’t.

I’ve heard rumors that Axon is pouncing on Flock’s bad PR and wants to take a chunk out of their business. A few towns have already switched from Flock to Axon.
Flock’s tech is more advanced than most other technologies out there, which is why it’s sparked so much concern. If Axon can demonstrate that they’re better, though, localities will go with them instead.

I wonder what sort of good faith arguments one could make in favor of Flock. It’d be one thing if it was effective and worked properly, but it seems like it doesn’t.
One could argue that these cases are rare, but frankly, image recognition technology has improved so much over the past several years that it’s actually hard to understand why Flock tech makes as many mistakes as it does.

I’ve never understood how watermarking text works.

That’s kinda how firings work lowkey

Interesting. I use “leftists” as synonymous with “progressive” or, perhaps more accurately, “marxist”. So I would never call a Liberal a Leftist, for example.
Interestingly enough, the Tankies as described by you here remind me more of the Neoconservative center and right, I have never associated such types with the left in my mind at all.

What’s the difference between tankies and the far left?

Not really, that’s just something leftists say to lash out because they’re mad that liberals aren’t progressive.

Yep. But I’m not sure what Centrism is, exactly.
In America’s Overton Window, Centrism typically means Classical Liberalism, while eschewing far-left mindsets like Marxism.

People’s first impression tends to color how they view something. Fair or not, the first Mastodon instance you join tends to affect your view of the software, and the Fediverse as a whole.
If people tell you to join a social media website, and you get treated poorly when you join, why would you want to stay on that website’s social network?

Because Mastodon is a predominantly leftist platform, they’ll always be doing stuff like this.

Who the heck had the bright idea to post this to Hacker News?
In America? Because they’re not in power, these cameras are making the rich richer, and have failure rates they don’t like. Or they hate America.
Remember, they support the surveillance state of China. Mass surveillance is not what they have a problem with at all.
