I hate that I did this exact thing last year.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•[AskLemmy Meta]: Should bot posts be banned in AskLemmy.world?
1254·3 days agoI think if I am presented with an are you a robot captcha check box every 10 refreshes on lemmy.world for being on a VPN, that is the least we can do for bots.
That is because in China, the federal government takes care of paying local social services, like schools, emergency services, parks, and libraries. In the US, these costs are funded, in part or in full by properties taxes.

491·8 days agoI did a couple things to make my life comfy here.
I changed my default sort to be “new comments” - this gave me the biggest perspective change on Lemmy, I now see where the active conversations are and it makes the place feel more full of people and less pages and pages of empty threads. I also found a lot less political stuff this way, because it gets posted a lot but people only interact with just a few of the political posts, so only those one end up floating to the top. I am finding myself getting less politics this way on Lemmy than I was on reddit. Also has the added bonus of highlighting where the active communities are.
I blocked Lemmy.ml and hexbear. A lot of the wilder leftist stuff comes from them and once it was blocked I saw the amount of politics in my feed drop right away.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a good non-cash compensation/show of appreciation to a neighbor for cat-sitting?
6·9 days agoI always opt for something you can eat or drink if they say they don’t want gifts. That way it won’t clutter anything up and you were still able to give them something. So if not the beer, some candies or maybe a tray of smoked salmon would be a good idea. Or if the place you are visiting has some type of specialty, like a local spice or fruit, maybe that.

3·9 days agoThis 100%. Everything you write on any of these chats, anything you write in email, anything you exchange digitally can be monitored if it is not end to end encrypted. People are way too ignorant about it. Just because you can’t search your chat history up on Google doesn’t mean you aren’t being tracked, recorded and monitored.

Privacy@programming.dev•Which search engine do you use for what?
5·14 days agoDuck duck go for personal, Bing and Google for work.
Duck duck go isn’t bad, I can usually find what I need from them.
Lots of AI platforms use Brave search and lots of people use AI instead of search engines now, if your looking for something else you can try that.
