  • Programming is not like actual meditation. At least, it never was for me. It meant being constantly busy thinking about design choices and alternatives. At best, it meant being very focused in the present, but way too focused and constantly solving puzzles.

There’s been a few times I’ve been truly zen’d out with meditation and it is way fucking nicer than the feeling you get from even doing work you enjoy. It’s much nicer to actually just truly meditate than find a “meditative” hobby. Fishing isn’t meditation. Hiking isn’t meditation. But, you can meditate while you hike or fish if you try and know how to meditate… But you should probably learn to meditate first and get used to it.

It would be way more important in this respect to just sit down next time you’re somewhere comfortable and just focus entirely on your breath, without putting your thoughts into words. Just truly be in that moment, breathing. Peaceful. Not strategizing about how best to handle a task, but just focusing on your breath. or even easier, start with guided meditations. Find somewhere peaceful and comfortable where you won’t be disturbed and just try it out.

It feels like a waste of time at first but then it quickly ends up feeling like a necessary action to just truly exist and be sane, kind of like how if you jog every day eventually you feel like you need it and even look forward to it. At first you might freak out about trying not to think for 20 minutes, then eventually 2 hours feels easy. And the practice can help your mental health in so many ways. It’s kind of like a Vulcan superpower at times, like you might get social anxiety and seriously learn to turn it off. You just get more control over an organ that is responsible for how you think and feel, and that’s way more powerful than people imply. There’s a reason it’s suggested for mental health all the time.

  • Yeah, women and men both can be pervy and gross, and I don’t care if people enjoy their hookup culture or whatever normal sex they have, but there are places where you should not have to deal with pervy behavior, like in the workplace.

But there’s a difference between someone glancing at some dude’s package or some woman’s breasts because their eyes went there and they didn’t mean to, versus someone taking a look then talking to a coworker about it. The latter is pervy and gross and extremely inappropriate. It’s very human, but also very gross. People need to get their behavior in check in certain environments.

  • I swear, people either think it’s a wish granting genie or a worthless hallucinating scam. There is zero room for actual rational discussion. It’s either magic and perfect or the exact opposite and a curse. It’s either the coolest modern tech or an environment destroying disaster. Either we should invest all our money in it, or none.

This entire article is just “can’t you guys see it isn’t a magic wish granting genie!” I’m kind of sick of this side to the argument even though it’s mostly just people trying to fight insane push from board rooms, wanting everyone to adopt the tools.

I’ve been coding for decades, and I’ve been pushed to use the new tools, have, I’ve been a lot more productive in some ways, but I actually read every fucking line of code it produces. It’s not perfect but it has been useful. It’s not a wish granting genie, but it has helped me. And if it goes away I could give a fuck less and would go back to doing things the way I always have.

This bubble is gonna pop some day, and it’s getting there I think. But I don’t see AI disappearing after either. I do look forward to less icons on sites like ✨ “click here to use MAGIC” like no motherfucker I don’t need a random ai helping me write a description for a calendar event, fuck you

  • I feel like these posts are just honeypots for people who’d actually do something more effective

Like it takes time to plant shit and it’s hilariously ineffective against a place with cameras around it. They will see a dude with a trowel and face mask and bamboo and laugh while they call the cops. Then that person doesn’t do any harm but the intent is very fucking clear and they get charged in court as if they were going to do something actually dangerous. It doesn’t matter that the attempt was pointless… The intent was there, and it’s easy to prove because they probably sent this meme to someone.

This meme is a control tactic, and there’s going to be a few idiots getting arrested with gardening tools near data centers, trying to act like they “accidentally” planted bamboo in the wrong place, meanwhile getting charged with criminal intent after an investigation.
