  • The funny thing is pets.com and WebVan were way ahead of their time. But who sells groceries and pet food online? …Amazon. the fucking bookstore does.

No one could have guessed that’s how things would have turned out, however, it is clear that people follow the hype and forget how to run a business and make profit. Amazon was doing it fine, others weren’t.

I am guessing Nvidia will still be around and OpenAI might collapse. They talk about being profitable “next year” every year. They are burning investor cash. Nvidia has been a solid company since before and will be after.

Anthropic, I don’t know. But these companies so many people see as the top of the food chain probably aren’t.

  • I think it really does boil down to capitalism. Nostalgia sells really fucking well, and there are big wigs in suits that realized comic books were basically a gold mine in movie scripts and merch.

But also there’s a factor in that the production value, expected costs and revenue rose dramatically for all this stuff. Movies cost so much to make now because they want to maximize profit.

And they realized that betting on some author’s weird new story was risky, even if it was a good story. But X-Men? Everyone has heard of them. It’s way less risky to invest in brands that already exist and are popular.

I think it’s more that investors/producers are risk averse, and they want something guaranteed to be known and seen before they throw millions at it.

It’s not just nerds make and spend money, but nerds are very loyal to their brands, and these fucks only know how to sell brands.

  • It’s planned obsolesence. They make more money by marketing high tech/luxury stuff and having it break on purpose in a defined amount of time.

I got some Carhartt “worker” jeans, advertized as nice jeans for manual laborers.

I work from home in my home office. The crotch tore in less than 6 months of hard… sitting.

Expensive shit they want you to buy over and over again because they think you’re an idiot. I learned to sew, learned to darn my nice wool socks that tore predictably in 6 months, repair and maintain my motorcycle, repair my plumbing, because fuck all this enshittification.

My new MO is to buy your shit once, and either i will say your brand is great or keep wearing my torn/repaired carhartt jeans and keep reminding people never to buy them unless they want to learn how to sew. Fuck these greedy pieces of shit.

  • i have so many protocols to represent the most common fractions perfectly without needing more than just ONE bit. They even work with positive and negative infinity!

The trick is to first negotiate the protocol youre using.

    protocol schema 1/2

    1 bit, little endian

if one: value is exactly 1/2

If zero: value is NOT one half

    Schema 1/3

    if one: value is 1/3
