I think from this blog you may misunderestimate how absolutely giddy I am about AI. I did hacking from 2007-2014, after that my whole career has been devoted to AI. I love the progress. I’m so excited for the new LLMs, self driving cars, video generation models, and coding agents. I set up a Linux box with opencode on my local GLM-5.2 last week and wow like just saying install tmux with the geohot configuration works; the Year of the Linux Desktop is finally here!

    GeoHot already tried to reinvent PyTorch for non-Nvidia cards (to oversimplify), but in a “Twitter hype over substance” kind of way. It never came to anything; in fact, I’d say he robbed attention from better efforts. But I watched him throw childlike tantrums on YouTube, in a really mean spirited way, when he’s ostensibly supposed to be the head of a stable library.

    I did not get why he had such a following. That got me looking into is history and…

    I still dont get it.

    Why do we care about this guy?
