I’m not the person you are replying to but that’s not how I read their comment at all.

I read it as “The US has had ‘artificially’ low gas prices for a long time. Losing the supply will erase that advantage, so american people will suffer a lot from this” not “our gas prices are higher to start with so we are suffering more because of this”.
