    Yup. I think a lot of social media has turned into the “Outrage Olympics”. Whether the outrage is warranted or not, the siloed communities wallow in their performative group-think. It’s hard to break through the them-vs-us mentality. It has always been a human problem, but it really feels like it’s turned up to 11 in the past decade or so.

      yeah, it’s the abundance and the hyper specificity of it all.

      basically social media let all the nutbag theorizing from academia out into the wild, and people took it as religion.

      I actaully recently read a book about how things got this way, it’s called The Identity Trap, it was fantastic. He specifically references Tumblr as the origin of all of that stuff.
