At least he’s aware that simply counting pull requests x bugs isn’t a good metric. AIs are good at failing fast and not every bug might end up reported soon after being vibe coded. The excessive testing stressed Cloudflare’s free infrastructure. This, somehow, wasn’t seen as a problem, but as a barrier to circumvent.
His reasoning on why AI won’t go into assembly is somewhat ironic. "Abstractions help reasoning. Types, functions, modules, ownership, and data structures expose intent and constraints. Lowering everything to assembly makes much of that information harder to recover. " - Harder for who? Would a minified, obscured javascript be any different? Because some generated code can frankly look like that.
If agents can handle the code, could we finally work directly with the logic, interfaces, and data models we want? Could UML and entity relationship diagrams become useful everyday interfaces to a living system, kept in sync as we change it?
No. Also no.
After 18 years of typing code, I thought I knew what programming felt like. I’m excited to find out what it feels like next.
My bet is on “RAD visual scripting 3.0 turbo”
