Almost certainly it’s so the flight crew can make the decision. Having an official policy now gives them the option to cancel a ticket with company backing.

I’m hoping that they’ll make an exception for people that are impaired and use it for health reasons.

However, glassholes or whatever you call them can try to take advantage of that too which is why things suck.

Visual impairment. There was a story from like 30 years ago where a guy had some glasses device surgically attached to his skull which used a camera to help him see

They tried to force him to remove it, and it was a huge controversy

There’s a difference between medical devices and spy cameras, though: Meta’s glasses do nothing for visual impairment beyond what any regular eyeglasses could do, and – as far as I know – they don’t offer any other health benefits. They’re at best an expensive toy, and at worst, a major violation of public trust.

Medical glasses are probably absurdly expensive, though. If you can jury-rig pervert glasses to work, you might save thousands (much like people who use AirPods as hearing aids; they probably aren’t as good, but good hearing aids can be 10x or more the price, and we live in a capitalist hellscape where that’s an obstacle).

I remember someone on Lemmy or somewhere that because they were so visually impaired that it can help describe their surroundings or help them answer questions about it. Honestly, I have no idea … I kinda just took their word for it.

It took me a long time to realise this meant “with”. “w/“ is more readable but still not good

Preferably also works in-flight. At 10 kilometers high just dunk the asshole out of some type of airlock
