The problem with being a “scientist” is that you spend your entire life quietly serving capitalism for personal gain. Then, when your privilege is ultimately threatened, you’re only capable of meekly complaining about “eroding scientific standards”. Any complaints about fascism, etc. are far outside the habitus.

You must not know many people who work in the sciences. They are researchers, teachers, material engineers, safety administrators, doctors, automotive engineers…etc. Very few work in bio or pharma with the goal of just making money. Most of those people who ever make lots of money from science squat on patents from federally funded university programs, which should be illegal.

I’ve seen more scientists, phd students, post grads, and STEM college students at protests than at any other time in my 30 years of protest. I’ve been involved in organizing countless protests online and now spend hours every week cultivating or building networks for dissidents and community organizers.

I don’t know which scientists you’re talking to in the meatspace, but you might want to find different ones. Before they’re all in the EU or Canada.
