All the cool kids watch Star Trek in the neutral zone.

I feel like I’m extra neutral then. I pay for P+ and Netflix but still “y’arr!” the shows I want to watch simply for the convenience. Would much rather use my own Emby server than have to switch through and navigate their clunky apps.

I pay for 4 streaming services AND Cable and still pull everything down to Jellyfin/Plex.

We also pay for Apple Music, and I keep a copy of all the music we listen to and have playlists.

I am completely down for paying for content because I want it made, but I’ll be damned if I’m letting them take it away from me because an executive needs another yacht or two multi-millionaires are squabbling over rights.

Same here. Haven’t used Emby but the Plex interface is just so much better than any streaming service.

Plex is getting worse and worse for me. All the new “services” they keep trying to push with content I don’t want and now I can’t remove from my home pages…

Laughs in Jellyfin… But seriously, as soon as Plex went mandatory login for local content, i noped out…

I also use jellyfin but for personal content. I’ll have to look into moving everything for the whole family over - and get them used to a new app/website. The situation is becoming untenable.

I do exactly the same. The convenience of Emby is just too nice.

“The neutral zone” is a great euphemism for “The Pirate Bay”

If you value having a computer free of malware, there are much better indexes than The Pirate Bay.

How do you get malware from downloading a media file?

You’re right; I should’ve been more specific. Even though a malicious payload can be embedded in media files given the right vulnerability to make use of it, I’m referring to malvertising, which is still a problem on piracy sites. This happened not too long ago on The Pirate Bay’s many clones, and TPB itself notoriously served its users ransomware in 2016.

This is why ad-blockers are an essential security tool for everyone, whether they care about ads or not.

Or install a search plugin for your client and avoid the site altogether.

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally “othering” of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That’s okay! Just don’t let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it’s free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not ‘inspire jamaharon’

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community’s expectations.

Fun will now commence.
