I get your point but one has to be realistic. It takes me half an hour to get to the park by car, it would take me like at least an hour, multiple transfers, and lots more walking if I go by bus.
My region isn’t even impossible to use public transit either it’s just way more convenient with cars and public transit hasn’t gotten better. I would love more frequent buses or rail system but a man can only dream.
So you’re saying cars are more convenient, and that’s why you use them? And you’re angry that you’re being charged to accommodate your car?
And you whibe about parking cosrs but don’t even mention more socially and ecologically responsible modes of transit and how they could be better until they’re brought up, and then literally as an impossible dream?
What? You don’t pay taxes? That’s what taxes are for. Stop being an ass. You are trying to make a point–we get it. There are better methods of transportation than cars. That’s in a perfect world where everything else is equal. Not all places are designed the same, have the same people, the same temperatures and weather, etc. We can advocate for better design, but that doesn’t help where we are RIGHT NOW.
My closest park is 2 miles away with no sidewalks for over half of it, a very busy intersection, etc. I’m not walking or biking there with my two young kids and a heat index over 100. The closest bus stop is a mile away and has no sidewalks on the way. No idea if it even heads to the closest park, but it’s not free, either.
So, taxes are for car and car enabling, which is most of what youre worried about with your children and why you must car, because there are so many dangerous cars around! Okay.
I would’ve happily paid the parking fee to support maintenance of the park don’t get me wrong, but as I stated, I’m a broke bitch right now and can’t afford paying a fee to walk in the park.
I’m not saying it’s an impossible dream, I’m saying that if you were to walk in a park a 30 min car drive away using public transit, then at least half of your day would be gone.
Going to work also takes me 45min-1hr car drive. If I take the bus and walk, my life would be a living hell.
Im saying, as a pedestrian; you don’t need to take 2+ tons and 70+ sqft of steel at 80 mph everywhere you fucking go. I don’t care how comfy or convenient it is; that shit’s crazy.
The fact that even can be accommodated is insane. Yeah you should pay. If the public transit isn’t good, that’s it’s own problem.
Regional park I went to last weekend charged for parking. So being the broke bitch I am, I parked in a Walmart parking lot a mile away and walked in.
A park near me went from $5 parking to $10 recently. It feels pretty unreasonable.
Car brains suggesting that their comfort two ton murder machines being accommodated literally everywhere is a central part of ‘existing’. Love it.

But public transit is a pipe dream?
No one said don’t invest in other options, but are you saying we can’t access parks safely while we try to update?
Safe for whom?
