A new study reveals a psychological bias that leads people to reject faster, more efficient routes when they involve retracing steps. Known as "doubling-back aversion," the effect emerged in both physical navigation and mental tasks across four experiments.

      They explain it’s different, because people still prefer not switching to an alternative even if it’s without any cost
