The project explained that only Pixels have met its strict security and update requirements so far.
Have they explained before what these requirements are?
Yeah, on their site iirc.
We kind of know part of the answer. They want to be able to re-lock the bootloader. they also want to be able to use as new a version of Android as possible.
I mean good for them for finally pulling their head outta their ass but this is again for rich people only. y’all who don’t got no bricks of cash to spend on new & shiny slabs of glass - get fucked as usual.
Why don’t you fucking code one up then you entitled twat
Eh not really, in India you can get a 2nd hand Pixel “a” model a couple years old and have it last for nearly a decade with official support and GrapheneOS extended support, not bad value for money but certainly a bit more expensive than the most budget phones.
Yay! I hope they figure out a way around the no-sideloading BS too
Do you have a reference on graphene being affected by the app signing? I tried to find an answer earlier, and came up with nothing.
No I haven’t heard one way or another
Nothing?
Honestly that could be it since the colours match so we will see.
This would be a similar situation as when OnePlus had Cyanogen mod on the One.
Motorola has snapdragon , and bootloader kan be unlocked
OnePlus still has the OEM Unlock option natively. It could be them.
i would have thought it would be oneplus, but theyve recently made bootload unlocking more restrictive, unless theyre walking back on that for graphene
isnt that only in thier newer and future models, im using the 12r, and you can still unlock it, im not saavy enough to change the OS.
i mean, newer and future models are the kinda relevant part for GrapheneOS to jump over and get a new market of users.
Samsung phones are probably a no-go though, right? No way around their locked bootloader?
The phone would be shipping with GrapheneOS, you don’t need to unlock the bootloader if you are the OEM installing the OS.
One of their comments mentions that having it preinstalled may or may not happen. The aim atm seems to be the current Pixel situation where you unlock the device and install it yourself.
Interesting. I wonder if the OEM thinks they can remove the ability to do that after the fact.
