They keep mentioning fleets but don’t mention the effect when Hertz dumps their entire stock on the market.

I think the critical issue at this point in time is that people don’t understand battery lifespan yet. “You don’t want a used EV, you don’t know if the battery will last.” All the data I’ve seen so far is that the batteries on average last longer than anticipated before hitting their 80% nominal capacity at which people tend to replace them.

Personally, I tend to keep my cars. Gas or electric, they don’t need to be replaced every 5 years/100k mi. More like 15/250.

Even the 80% number is still a fully functional car for regular commuting and errands. Its just the echo of range anxiety mostly.

I haven’t hit that but if it’s anything like phones and laptops, the batteries will hit a point of unreliability where it says 80%/200km but it plummets as the BMS just doesn’t understand what’s going on, and real range is closer to 100km - but because the gauge is broken, range anxiety is justified.

I hope that isn’t the case! I use my EV for small trips, so I expect to keep it on the road for at least 10 years and hopefully longer. Just hope the rust doesn’t destroy it.

Just an anecdote but a friend has an early nissan leaf. Its range is well less than 100km now, but works nicely for their second vehicle for around town.
