So the solution to algorithm being dictated by billionaires or governments with little to no transparency is to move to another one?

Maybe its better to stay by the sidelines instead of constantly rushing to join the next new social media. Perhaps its better to view them more from a position of an observer than a participant when it comes to the meta, tiktok, twitter type social media run by big centralized money or governments backing them.

Westerners would rather drown in capitalist propaganda than listen to anything a diabolical Chinese national might have to say.

Tankies would rather push a Chinese state controlled app over a Fediverse replacement ran by real people.

The US does not control the Fediverse.

Promote Loops not state run garbage.

I get what you mean, but the fediverse will likely never overcome state powers and reach. They have so much money, talent, and infrastructure to push propaganda.

The reality is people will have to use US tech and socials to expose Chinese/Russian/North Korean/Iranian atrocities and vice versa Unfortunately that’s currently the only way to gain any real ground.

You can already see how western allied social media and mainstream news tried to hide Israel’s genocide under the rug. And you’ll see how Chinese tech companies try to hide their Uyghur genocide and such.

They’re only amplified because they’re pushed by companies of geopolitical rivals.

Excited for the next edition of liberal pogroms against people using the wrong kind of social media.

How’d that work out for your boy Biden, again?

No, it’s not even like Tiktok at all. The vast majority of the content is in Mandarin and if you aren’t Chinese your not going to know the asinine culture rules and get banned for something you thought was silly, but they take very seriously.

I haven’t been banned yet, but then again I save all my shitposts for the fediverse and stick to book reviews on RedNote.

Same, but it’s just because I don’t comment or post as I don’t speak Mandarin, so the majority of the people wouldn’t even know what I am saying. What’s the point you know?

I have found a bunch of really cool recipes, man they love their eggs…

Some people provide translated subtitles and the app does have a built in translator function. I found it’s enough to converse, but definitely niche.

        for non-chinese

or for Chinese that don’t want to be censored?

Most platforms have some kind of moderation. But I’m sure a Chinese platform will be quite selective about a particular set of topics and themes.
