    Don’t know about Berman’s mental state, but I know of plenty of old people who didn’t lose their marbles. My granny for one remembers anything since the dawn of time or at least from her 95 years of living.

      What you actually do in retirement matters a lot too. I noticed a huge difference between one who challenged herself mentally and one who watched TV while drinking beer all day.

        Not entirely. I remember there was a neurological study of nuns. The oldest ones were riddled with Alzheimer’s, but they had a rich social life. Despite the diagnosis, they were still plenty sharp.
