    Yeah, I dislike when people moderate their beliefs and opinions around the most recent event that made them feel an emotion. If the person above advocates the death penalty for this guy, it implies they advocate for the death penalty in general, and that’s mega fucked. But almost as fucked is the notion that their opinion changed entirely based on their emotion in this moment. It means they have little or no foundation for their own ethics and ideology. It means they’re potentially reactionary, untrustworthy, or ideologically immature. It means that they cannot argue for or consistently demand a coherent vision for a better world. It’s a huge liability.

      That’s some pretty heavy character assessment that I don’t really want to pronounce on them. People’s entirety really can’t be reduced to one kind-of-cringe comment they made. If that was the case I would be guilty of far worse.

        Oh certainly, I don’t mean to prescribe all of that to this one person. I’m saying that when someone reacts this way, this is the array of possibilities they bring to the table, and absent any productive contribution outside of an unprocessed and possibly harmful form of catharsis.
