I’m at a point where I never, ever watch YouTube in a browser any more.

I have a little app I put together that’s literally just a button that takes a copied link and uses yt-dlp to download it and save it to a YouTube folder on my Jellyfin server. I build up a collection of videos to watch, then watch them on my Apple TV. Works a treat and means that I don’t end up sitting for hours, idly watching stuff.

Well look at Mr. Moneybags over here, who can still afford storage for his Jellyfin server.

(I’ve been running low on space for a while now, and I’m kicking myself for not buying more drives last summer…)

Yeah, I’m lucky enough that I only need my server to have enough for the odd thing I want to watch. A friend has a Plex server hosted on 40tb of drives in the server room of the university he works for, so I’m happy enough with my 1tb.

I occasionally run into issues with yt-dlp, either not working at all or only downloading 480p videos, but usually find that an update fixes it.
