I’m not sure the people who think they can find love in AI are the people who fall in love with AI. Same principle with cults-- virtually no one joins a cult knowingly. They’re just looking for connection and find it in a weird place

The idea of not “bothering the rest of us” seems inherently flawed. They are someone’s offspring, sibling, neighbor, coworker, a voter, etc. Having folks in our communities be so isolated isn’t healthy for a functioning society
Isn’t that just on a file-by-file basis though?
Yeah it’s like any other music streaming app
I just assume most people won’t have an easy way to tunnel into their home network if they’re out to do streaming
I’m thoroughly confused now. Are you using the Jellyfin app (or something hooked up to your server) on your phone or nah? If not, I would consider that a Syncthing-only setup, since it could be pointed to Plex or any files. No judgment and it’s fine if you disagree. I’m just curious what tools people use and how they use them
The Jellyfin app already supports local downloads. And if using Syncthing to get your files locally you can use any player
What is Jellyfin’s value add in a setup like this? Seems better to use one or the other
The LTT allegations were investigated by a third party who was unable to substantiate the claims and were described as “largely unfounded, misleading, and unfair”
They were sold to private equity and are slowly transitioning it away from Derek. That way it can be a brand not directly tied to him and his face
The channel is owned by private equity

7·3 months agoThat’s pretty damning. If you feel comfortable, I’d be interested to hear what the micro managing looks like in practice
Underunderstood - Favorite one but on hiatus because they all had kids; side project of some journalists trying to help people
Hyperfixed - New problem solving one from Alex Goldman of Reply All
The Turning - Each season explores an organization that people don’t commonly call a cult (but probably should)
Shell Game - Funny and frightening exploration with LLMs

20·4 months agowhen there’s never been any other successful systems.
I don’t know what you define as successful, but I can assure you there were previous systems and alternatives that currently exist. It’s a broad term

Same. Physical media will degrade and fail. If you want reliable access to the VHS collection then you need to digitize and create backups. About 10% of my collection wasn’t able to be digitized due to degradation

2·6 months agoI recommend not supporting that company. The old Ticket to Ride app was delisted and servers shuttered. It probably had ~$100 worth of IAP for different maps which couldn’t be transferred to the new app

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Has a stranger's reply to you on social media ever changed your strongly-held belief(s)?English
221·6 months agoYes, but not in a way you might think.
When it comes to the death penalty, I’ve always been on the “against” side of the fence. But for very heinous crimes, I believed I understood why families of victims would want to pursue that.
On an online forum, I encountered such a family member. They shared the crime in great detail, and how they felt about the assailant. The way they discussed it was very ugly, selfish, and overly punitive. It was clear they no longer viewed the person as a human being. They weren’t able to process the trauma. This changed my belief that there are rational arguments for the death penalty from family members.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What kind of fancy taste/food experiences do you know that I can quickly acquire as part of a birthday gift?English
3·7 months agoIf you’re down for a recipe…
- Get a couple packs of blueberries
- Pour them in a bowl
- Add a couple tablespoons of cocoa powder
- Add cayenne pepper (twice as much as you think you should)
- Stir with a spoon to combine
- Use the same spoon to eat (do NOT eat with your hands)
Should taste equal parts spicy and sweet. If too spicy, dilute with more cocoa powder or blueberries.
Aren’t most long running and active media franchises just cash grabs?
