Technology@lemmy.world•World-first biological data center packs 16 mn living human neuronsEnglish
231·2 days agoThey were also engineered to be deficient in a protein that’s essential for the normal function of neurons.
Given the careful engineering of the organoids to inhibit normal function, the researchers are not worried at this stage. However, if any start to show signs of consciousness, they will consider shutting the project down.
Making them stupid so they don’t appear “human”

35·3 days agoDress shoes
Rich people wanted to pretend they always ride horses, so they always wore slim shoes. This became the standard for all shoes, and everyone has been suffering since

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•To all the men here, are y'all satisfied with the male friendships y'all have in life?
2·7 days agoI wouldn’t call my male friendship status any better or worse than my non-male friendships.
Lots of people that I wish to hold contact with but also don’t wish to be in contact with too often. It’s not too difficult for me to pick out similar folks or be picked out by similar folks in a crowd of people, so I’m not in a rush to make more connections.

2·9 days agoI’m not sure Tetris has a case here though. Do they have a patent on colored blocks falling down? You’re not even making rows clear

5·10 days agoUnless the only things you do are browse and use open source software, you’re out of luck. Even then, lots of open source software assume Linux and break on BSD.
In comparison, you’re not losing much when ditching an LLM WM for a non-LLM WM.
Some hardcore people will go all the way à la Amish, but most will do what they can that doesn’t disrupt their current lifestyle (pls don’t rant abt this im begging you)

1·11 days agoThe government is not a single entity. When I read “US government” I anticipated congress or a court ruling. But it was neither, just Trump (which we already know)

I hate it when that happens
