Let me give you some advice: if you run into another person who actually reads, counter with your own recommendations. Even better, google a review of their book and bludgeon them with that. It seems you are so thrown off by being asked to read that you have no other move than to camp out in my replies asking for a summary. Has this never happened to you before?
