Transgender New Hampshire state Rep. Alice Wade (D) today accused Democratic Socialist U.S. House candidate Heath Howard of pressuring her to drop out of her race because he believed her trans identity would spoil her chances. He initially denied all wrongdoing, but later admitted to making comments about her gender.

“Last year, a fellow state representative and someone I considered a close friend called me repeatedly, telling me not to run for Congress,” New Hampshire Rep. Alice Wade (D) wrote in a public Facebook post. “He told me our friendship would be over if I stayed in the race. He questioned my integrity. He tried persuading me with promises of future political support if I stepped aside. And, most painfully, he told me that because I’m an openly transgender woman, I stood no chance of winning higher office in New Hampshire. That person was [New Hampshire State] Rep. Heath Howard [D].”

With “allies” like these, who needs enemies?

This baby boy is 26, meaning he was 25 when these comments were made. Anyone acting like this problem will go away when the elderly bigots begin to die off is a fool. Further, as he is a Democratic Socialist, it’s just one more for the pile of evidence that the LGBTQ+ community could never and still can’t count on “the left” for support and representation.

I was talking about this earlier in a different comm, but we have severely regressed on these issues over the last 10 years and the left has not been immune to it.

The article summary implies they just one time admitted the uncomfortable truth that being trans does hurt your chances of being elected in this country in this year, but that’s much worse. How can you tell somebody that your friendship will be over for being who they are?

If a friendship will be over because one party to it is pursuing a goal they genuinely believe in, that is not only to the betterment of their community but because of who they are as a human being, I think it’s safe to say there was never actually a two-person friendship there.

Or to put it another way, I am certain that of the two, Alice Wade was a real friend and thought she was in a real friendship.

In January, WMUR revealed private text messages showing Howard telling then-gubernatorial candidate Jon Kiper that “[Democrats] keep losing” because the party is run by women who don’t support “cis white men.”

        Piece of shit indeed!

Was he openly declaring intent to go murder her in the street after invasive inspections in the bathrooms like MAGA does?

      No?

      Shut the fuck up.

        Ah, excuse me, no.

I push for “vote blue no matter who” in the general election because at that point the choice is fascist or not-fascist.

But before that point is EXACTLY when we should NOT be shutting up, thank you. This is unacceptable.

Now, if there’s an election between Rep Howard and a fascist, vote for the non-fascist. But if there’s a primary and a better option presents, then vote for the better option.

And certainly not shut the fuck up about transphobia.

There is no pure ideology that is immune to bigotry. It’s rooted deeply in human psychology and has permeated our entire society. I don’t know if it’s possible to completely eliminate but it can be reduced but it requires acknowledging its omnipresence, even among some we might otherwise see as allies.

Was this his “polite way” of asking her to sit it out because she’s trans or because she’s inept for the job.?

If she was inept, he should’ve been straightforward with her instead of trying various ways of bullying her into silence while pretending to be her friend.
