Glen A. Larson created both BSG and Knight Rider. Another fun fact is that the evil KITT, called KARR, was voiced by Optimus Prime (at least initially).

In Galactica 1980, the fleet arrives at a then-modern day Earth. But so do the Cylons, who now have humanoid models.
At some point in the series, a Raider with the human Cylon and two Centurions crashes on Earth.
The wreckage is cleaned up, Knight Industries gets ahold of it through some means, and uses the brains of the Centurions to build KARR, who is still influenced by his deadly Cylon programming, and KITT, who they worked out all the bugs on.
The roving sensor eyes of the Centurions were built into the vehicles for the same use, to see and act as a sensor for when the vehicle is autonomously driving.
And then I guess it simply travels though time (in the normal/usual way:-) forward to get installed into the Enterprise.
KITT always was a Cylon.
