Thanks to u/FauxPseudo I was inspired to make a Detroit style pizza with a sheet of wings and homemade sauce.

Had a great time putting this together with my son tonight. The dough came out just a bit too doughy in the middle but otherwise it was perfect! I think next time I’ll only do 1.5x the recipe of dough instead of 2x

Cast iron is a great way too cook pies at home. You can also grab a square detroit pan from places like Lloyd’s Pans, and they are great. As a bonus, they are incredible for cinnamon rolls and brownies :)

looks great! something like 270-280g of dough for 10" worked for me at home. foolproof pan recipe @ serious eats most of the time for dough.

if the middle’s a bit undercooked, you can finish on the stove burner or just generally to crisp up the bottom

Serious Eats no-knead dough gang represent!

For me frying the bottom of the pie on the stove in a fuckton of olive oil is mandatory and elevates the dish to culinary heaven.

It pretty much fried itself in the oven I defiantly used a fuckton of oil I even had to pour some out lol. Wondering if I should have fried it for a minute then flipped it over before topping it and throwing it in the oven to fully cook

yeah frying first then topping /baking seems to be the recipe after reading through again. same deal as grilled pizza, get the dough started, then top.

even somewhat messing up the baking part they turn out awesome

I tried a cast-iron pan pizza a while back but it was Chicago-style, not Detroit. It turned out to be more casserole than pizza. It was still good, but not what I was hoping for.

This one looks like it has a thick bread crust. I like that.
