I’m very happy with my TrueNAS solution. My only complaint is that I can’t find a low cost ATX case with 10 to 12 front loading 3.5 SATA bays.
What motherboard are you using?
I think an old gigabyte mid ATX. It maxed out at 16g of DDR3. It has 5? SATA ports plus I have a SAS card installed.
Thanks.
I just “retired” a similar board (it stopped booting 😕) - it was in an old Antec case that can handle about 10 drives, so I’m looking for something with good idle power. I expect to have to add a SATA card (already have one).
How’d TrueNAS do for spinning down drives?
Spinning down drives? As in keeping the RPM low if not in use? I have not monitored the drive spin since I’m typically using the server constantly.
Meh, pretty lame article just bitching about the Synology hard drive nonsense. Valid gripe, but that’s old news. And the author provides no new insight.
As for SMB limits, I don’t know enough about it, perhaps there’s a reason they limit the connections on some devices. OP doesn’t link anything in the article, so we have no idea to what the author is referring to.
