You can’t gerrymander them. You can’t buy them out with an RV or a few grand in lobbyist money. You can’t hit them with a bunch of negative ads in an off year and wipe them out.
They’re “anti-democratic” in the liberal sense of the word. Which is to say, they don’t respond to an easily manipulated general constituency. They respond to their actual working class membership as constituents.
