GamerGate was also weaponized to be used as tool to popularize far right ideology by Steve Bannon. The rise in groups like Proud Boys, Groypers and the Manosphere can all be traced back to the GamerGate movement.
Yeah, I know. And while the GamerGate side was the far, far worse one, the anti GamerGate was also employing bad faith arguments and grifting their followers. Or in Wu’s case, just plain dumb. Both sides where easy targets for each other’s followers, which is how they wanted it. Who actually used that Call in a Gamer Girl service?
