I think it’s also a bit murky to call this “attempted gun violence against the foundation.” Killing himself in front of them would be traumatic for them, of course, but the violence would have been directed against himself.

I can see how this is a very complicated thing overall. Pedophilia is a mental condition, I expect most pedophiles don’t choose to be attracted to children. Why would someone choose something like that? Someone who is a pedophile could recognize that their condition is a disorder and seek treatment for it, and I would consider such a person to be laudable for their efforts. But of course lots of people don’t see it that way and we get zero-tolerance policies like this one Wikipedia has, and I think it likely leads to counterproductive outcomes. Makes it preferable to keep your condition secret rather than seeking out treatment.

"I saw the gun he’s holding go from pointing up at the ceiling to sweeping down toward the room, and as it swept across me I said ‘Oh, my god,’ and I ducked down, but I still kept moving” said Mr. Lih, a digital strategist who works with museums and libraries.

Saying you are going to shoot yourself and then pointing your gun at other people does not inspire confidence that those other people won’t get shot.

Clearly someone under those circumstances would be exercising perfect trigger discipline.

I’m going to say that going to them and being as unstable as he is meant everyone in that room was in danger, even if he had no original intention to hurt anyone else.
