California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday said he’s “deeply confident” that California voters this week will approve the state’s Prop 50 ballot measure, which would allow the state to redraw congressional maps on a partisan basis ahead of next year’s midterm elections.
In a wide-ranging interview, the California governor slammed the president’s push for mid-decade redistricting efforts in Republican states across the country, accusing the president of “rigging” next year’s congressional election and warning that Trump “is not screwing around.”
“He’s changing the rules. He’s rigging the game because he knows he’ll lose if all things are equal,” Newsom told Welker. “He did not expect California to fight fire with fire.”
I hated voting yes on 50, but did. I hated it for the anti-democracy framing of society. Gerrymandering seems like it should be a clear violation of Voting Rights. Yet, what else to do. They go low, we go high is just failing the paradox of tolerance. We really need the SC court to say gerrymandering is illegal. Not this Supreme Court, obviously. The previous one, because now it’s too late.

Even if they weren’t, where the fuck do you think Trumpism came from? The only possibility of preventing it is by forcing the democratic party to change, or replacing it altogether, even if it means making a “tough decision” and accepting the risks of a Trump presidency. Tactically, as well as morally, I made the correct decision and I will stand by that until the day I die.

Although I have voted in every election since i was old enough, my vote has never really mattered or made any difference outside of local politics.
