I know this might be a weird and stupid question, but I’m curious.

I think the ratio is a bit skewed heavily towards 20something guys. So maybe if that’s your thing? Idk I’ve had some good exchanges with folks but that’s about it for me.

No. Impossible. Not even Nicole, the Polish chick from Toronto, has responded to my dick pics.

It’s a worldwide site with a sort of small user base, anything is possible but it seems a long shot compared to going outside or talking to your friends, networking, dating sites, pretty much anything local seems a better chance.

Maybe, but Lemmy is such a small service that the chances of there being someone using Lemmy, sharing your interests, being compatible with your sexuality, being single, and is somewhere reasonably close to you, is pretty damn low.

    Anything is possible.

The question you have to ask yourself is the probability of it worth making a concerted effort to achieve it?

but also the people pmming you on reddit or lemmy are not seeking to be your friend. they are scammers/bots.

Hey, the 4 or 5 times I pmmed people on Lemmy were definitely not to scam them. The jury is still out on being a bot, though…

No. This place is for serious discussion of facts and ideas only. Everybody stop having fun and being friendly.

In a thing like this you can meet kindred spirits but personally I don’t really view knowing someone online and in meatspace as anywhere near equivalent.

  • Yes. Hi this is your friendly neighborhood Nigerian Prince. I am having a little bit of political troubles and I require your assistance. Plz send 500 bitcoins, and when I secure my kingdom, I will repay you 10x. XOXO 🤗

I know reddit sucks and all but check out if your local cities have subreddits or if there are any similar groups on other platforms, usually they are at least somewhat active and always have meetups or groups on other platforms such as discord going or whatever else, people there tend to be sociable in person and still understand internet culture. there are a few of such lemmy communities but not nearly as much as reddit at the moment, that could also be a opportunity for y’all btw if you start your own.

Finding/making friends on Lemmy is definitely possible. There are a handful of people I talk to outside of Lemmy every day that I originally met here a couple years ago.

I think it helps tremendously if you can find places to interact with others that are less combative than the news/politics/etc that can dominate the feeds here. If you have personal interests in music, movies, tv, or even just want to have casual conversations, there are plenty of communities for that here. Those places give everyone a chance to “break the ice” on a slightly more personal level that helps develop lasting friendships.

maybe you should develop a little more?

I mean, one does not ‘find a friend or partner on lemmy’, or anywhere else. Friendship, like love, is something that may happen and that will often not happen but we all need to work for it to maybe become a thing. Friends and partners are not stored somewhere, patiently waiting for us to need/want them ;)

    Edit: clarifications.

Why is it when I hear ‘basement full of people’ I immediately remember that chapter in McCarthy’s novel ‘The Road’? That scene was so… horrifyingly plausible—not recommended to anyone easily frightened and/or disgusted. A truly wonderful book, nonetheless. Really amazing.

I would say the movie adaptation is a bit easier to watch but still more than quite tense.

back to being alone then, thanks.

Why would that be? It’s just a matter of deciding what one is looking for. Is it a (sex) toy for you to play with? Good for you, but that most probably won’t be a friend/partner (they don’t have battery to power them on will and they have their own needs). Is it a partner/friend? Even better, but don’t hope to find them in the (sex) toy department ;)

There are people like that, you should not lose hope. Those people just don’t advertise themselves like that, and they are not waiting to meet anyone. This just happens when two persons start appreciating discussing with one another. Hence, the necessity to put in some work, and to make oneself available to them too. A few of those persons may even become good friends, with any luck.
