Did this as well and literally the only issue I have is with a few specific games on Steam that won’t work right. Other than that, it’s been a great switch over. Now I don’t feel like I have a microscope with built in ads up my butt watching everything I do and reporting it to the algorithm gods.
That’s what VMs are for.
If you need any help/advice feel free to ask me :)
I’ve tried Fedora, Ubuntu, PopOS, Mint, Debian - and so far out of box none of them work great. Some require large handfuls of extensions to get “normal” productivity things working and other hacks are sometimes needed just to get drivers working. I’ve yet to find any distro with a solid out of box RDP solution and so far gnome remote desktop, xrdp, and rustdesk have proven extremely lacking.
Are there any other distros worth checking out that you’d recommend and other RDP solutions? The latter is probably most key to me as I can figure out the former (in general…it’ll never be perfect, but I’ll get by).
I need to be able to access a shared local session, visually, with a resolution that adjusts to the client (not the server). Upon connection I can’t have a new session occurring or an old session first being completely logged out and it needs to be crystal clear and responsive. It seems like of the above, I can only ever check 1-2 boxes but never all of them versus windows, unfortunately.
I have a beginner question. If I install Ubuntu on my laptop in English. Will I be able to later change the language ? Or does it require a reinstallation?
I want to install Linux on an older laptop for my parent in law. They do not speak English and I do not speak their language well.
Since you are this new of a user linux mint might be better for you… Or even Fedora because it’s less resource intensive especially the Cosmic version https://fedoraproject.org/spins/cosmic
In addition Mint comes with it’s app store which is Flatpak based unlike Ubuntu s which is Snap based, flatpak is faster and just better. (Fedora might have one too but idk never tried it) Also a very good browser for linux is Firedragon i recommend giving it a try :)
You can change language whenever you want. Just go into settings and find it.

I did this a month ago and let me tell you I should have sooner. The transition has been largely painless thanks to all the progress on gaming on Linux with Proton. I have not had a single moment where I have lost any functionality and having more control over a system you trust to do what you tell it to do is amazing for peace of mind.
