This is how the Republicans are paying for ICE to terrorize communities.

Means testing is the primary reason why modern programs fail when compared with legacy programs and needs to be removed from the conversation with regards to how to make progress in this country.

Yeah, it puts paperwork barriers between aid and the people who need it, and it usually ends up costing more money than it “saves” by kicking needy people out of programs anyway

Benefits cliffs based on income levels should never be a thing. These things should always have phase-out ramps.

I’m sure someone will note an exception where it makes sense, but I can’t think of any off the top of my head.

Spell if out: Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Words matter. Like “antifa” taking on a like of its own in the mouths on MAGA. It never would’ve had that opportunity if it had just stayed anti-fascist. The abbreviation allowed for the formation of that other in the collective consciousness.

Same goes for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, but the twist is different this time. The “other” formulated by the abbreviation of ICE helps to obscure the discrepancy of their actions, it hazes the distance between what they’re doing and what Immigration and Customs Enforcement should be doing. You know, monitoring fruit and people movement at the border.

“ICE” instead of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, aa annoying as typing it in full is, aids the propaganda machine.
