In theory, you’re right. In practice however, you know as well as I do that population control measures would target the poor disproportionately. So whether it intended to be or not, it would end up being eugenics.

2·6 days agoAll of the dragon dreams (specifically dragon dreams - not greensight, not woods witch prophecies, etc) we’ve seen in these shows, and most that we’ve heard tell of, have included references to Dany hatching her dragons, the Iron Throne in a ruined throne room, and/or the White Walker threat. In other words, references to GOT. And when I say “most that we’ve heard tell of”, the only two dragon dreams we’ve been told about that I can think of that DIDN’T include a reference to GOT were:
- Daeron the Drunken’s dream in AKOTSK about a dead dragon falling on Dunk
- Rhaenyra mentioning that Daenys the Dreamer foresaw the Doom of Valyria
All this to say, I think HBO just likes using dragon dreams to tie everything back to GOT. Everything foreshadows GOT somehow.

2·6 days agoHonestly I would interpret the visions as “these are the reasons why you’re not gonna get that chicken farm, Helaena”:
-
The baby will be a boy and Rhaenyra will be forced to at least take it away, like Alicent said
-
The throne needs to be destroyed
-
Avoiding her fate would lead to the destruction of the world by the White Walkers
-
It’s not even about efficiency. I suspect that this is easier on her back, because she doesn’t have to keep pace with someone who doesn’t coordinate with her and who makes sudden, unexpected moves that cause her to wrench her back. As someone who has lifted a lot of heavy things in his life, I always find it easier and less painful to move something on my own whenever possible.

7·8 days agoI think the number thirty is being blamed, not because your life is actually “over” when you turn thirty, but because that TENDS to be roughly the age most people start having kids, and having kids certainly DOES cause major changes in lifestyle.

241·8 days agoYou should get that taken care of. An occasional twinge now and then is normal, but constant pain? In your thirties? That ain’t standard. In your forties, I could believe - although it still wouldn’t be standard. But your back should still be in relatively good nick in your thirties, unless you lift heavy things for a living. In your thirties a backache should be nothing a good night’s sleep, a nice stretch, and a long leisurely walk can’t fix.
Unless… you DO lift with your knees, right? When you need to lift something? And keep your back straight and chin up while doing so? People don’t constantly say to do that just for shits and giggles - it’s universally good advice.

Good ol’ geostationary moon.
She’s not standing up in her seat though as she blocks our view of the seat and is therefore beside it (or in front of it from our perspective). If she’s walking beside the desks that implies she’s the teacher (or professor if she’s teaching adults an advanced subject).
Her eye-rolling in the first panel suggests that she’s fed up with whatever nonsense the man is saying. My guess is that he’s proving to be a poor student for whatever reason.
In the second panel I assume she’s invited him back to her place that evening for some “extra tutoring” and in the third panel he comes to realize (to his disappointment) that she wasn’t speaking euphemistically.
My guess is that the difficulty in translating the title is due to some obscure local idiom for “Jucika’s extra tutoring gig” or “Jucika’s evening class side-hustle”.

2·11 days agoWe’ve had two Rhaenys Targaryens:
-
Sister-wife of the Conqueror, rider of Meraxes
-
The Queen that Never Was, rider of Meleys
Two Rhaena Targaryens:
-
Sister of Jaehaerys I, rider of Dreamfyre, first Targaryen woman to be rejected for her sex and passed over for her brother, mentioned by Alys as having stayed in Harrenhal
-
Sister of Baela, rider of Sheepstealer
Two Baelor Targaryens:
-
Baelor the Blessed, who had the Great Sept built
-
Baelor Breakspear, the Hammer
Two Baelon Targaryens:
-
Father of Viserys I and Daemon
-
Son of Viserys I, “the Heir for a Day”
Two Aerys Targaryens:
-
Brother of Baelor Breakspear and Maekar, mentioned in passing in AKOTSK
-
The Mad King
Two Jaeharys Targaryens:
-
The Conciliator, rider of Vermithor
-
Son of Aegon II, beheaded by Blood and Cheese
Two Viserys Targaryens:
-
Viserys I, the Peaceful, rider of Balerion (briefly)
-
Daemon and Rhaenyra’s youngest son, last seen heading for Pentos
It’s pretty true to life, as historically, children have usually been named after family members.

2·11 days agoSo with the “Daeron the Daring” name drop this episode, the screen franchise now has three Daeron Targaryens:
- Daeron the Daring Targaryen
- Daeron II Targaryen, AKA Daeron the Good
- Daeron the Drunken Targaryen
Obviously it’s nowhere near the number of Aegon Targaryens that have been mentioned so far…
- Aegon I Targaryen, AKA Aegon the ConqueroR
- Aegon II Targaryen, AKA Aegon the Elder
- Aegon the Younger Targaryen
- Aegon the Unlikely Targaryen AKA Egg
- Aegon Targaryen (son of Elia Martell)
- Aegon the White Wolf Targaryen AKA Jon Snow
…but it does seem to be the second-most common name in the screen franchise so far. I wonder will we ever hear Daeron the Young Dragon mentioned. It can really only happen in AKOTSK, I suppose.
EDIT: Oh, wait, I forgot that it’s actually a tie for second with “Brandon Stark”:
- Brandon the Builder Stark
- Brandon Stark (brother of Ned Stark)
- Brandon the Broken Stark

Oil companies couldn’t sell if nobody was buying. The idea that the world can be fixed and I won’t need to sacrifice a thing is a little too good to be true. Sure, maybe others will need to make more changes than me, and I’m certainly not gonna let them off the hook, but I’m not gonna let myself off the hook either, and anyone who tells me I can is selling me something.

Nonsense. Changing canon is not an inherently good or bad thing. Sometimes it even needs to be done. It can be done well, like when TOS Klingons were overhauled and replaced with movie/TNG Klingons. And it can be done poorly, like when TNG Klingons were overhauled and replaced with Kelvin Klingons.
The SNW version of the Gorn is a vast improvement over TOS Gorn, and is a logical progression from the changes introduced by the ENT Gorn.
