This went right over my head, and I just watched the movie a week ago lol.
I saw it once before (which was before it got popular), and the same was true both times… It was alright. I liked it, but it wasn’t amazing.

Everyone else acting proud to not know the Kpop Demon Hunters character and then there’s me proud that the comic strip child character supports best girl.
Like I get it if you like Zoey, she’s basically an autistic icon, and I hope the next movie gives us more of her, because so many of us saw ourselves in her, but the first movie wasn’t really about her. She was just there.
I had no idea what this was about. Not proud of it, nor ashamed.
I’ve seen some clips of the movie and it really isn’t for me. I really don’t like singing in movies, breaks the immersion for me. I don’t mind music itself, just the characters singing. I don’t know why it has the effect it has.
Eh, who knows. Not everything’s for everybody. Normally I’d agree with you, but I got really into this one.
Last year we took our 8-year-old niece to see the movie in theatres. It’s the sing-along version, and we instructed her to stand on her seat and sing each song. We stood up and sang, too. It was fun. Might not ever do it again and that’s fine.
I guess I’d heard of them both, and certainly KPop Demon Hunters more recently (my fav: “This is What it Sounds Like”).
But, if someone asked me who “Rumy” was, I couldn’t answer. But, the final panel gave me enough context to remember that Rumi and not the other one.

I’m not ashamed to admit I haven’t heard of the poet. But, poetry isn’t my thing, hence the inability to be ashamed of not knowing it. I do listen to some K-Pop and I have a niece who watches the movie religiously.
…How the hell did I miss that Zoey is coded autistic? I just had her pegged as “the creative one”, never mind the 700 2-second videos of turtles, or her very specific insecurities!
Someone once said that they all have autistic tendencies, but Zoey’s character/writing really leans into it.
There’s also how every time they all say something, she’s the one who says something different.
That actually makes me wonder if one or a few of the script writers have some autistic tendencies. I read something similar happened with the author of The Murderbot Diaries.
But yeah, given how Zoey seems to have more tells, I suspect she got that treatment more intentionally
I think you could interpret some of her characteristics as hyperfocusing on very specific interests.

Nitpick: You (or the original creator) mean Muslim poets. “Islamic” describes ideas and the like, not people.
He wrote poetry about Islam. Also he was Persian, not Arab. (In another comment you said to call him an Arab poet)
Isn’t that the point here? This character is describing the person by mentioning the type of poetry they create. If I call someone a “rock singer”, I am not calling that person a rock; I am describing their art.

An Arab poet. The Arabic language is cooked to the Muslim faith and it is the uniting factor. Usually languages are called after the region, but in this case is the other way around.
You don’t need to be Arab to write an Islamic poem…
I would understand that as someone from the Arab ethic group, the Arabic language and Islamic religion being separate (but overlapping) considerations.
(Rumi is best known for writing in Persian.)
To be fair, it’s the same thing. No one is born Muslim. Islam is a sect of Yahwism that people are either forced into through child abuse, or join “willingly” to deal with substance abuse.

I use the word cult objectively here. Yahwism is a cult because Yahweh was once a god in a pantheon of gods, a religion. A bunch of cultists branched off this religion and Yahwism was born. Later they splintered into the different sects we have today.
Atheism can be a cult in the same way not playing football can be a sport. It’s not a group, it’s just being normal.
