To what fucking end? There’s like 1,000 people in Greenland. Just say you’re going to spy on the Netherlands and be done with it.

I understand that, but why spying? We already know about the deposits, and the inuit towns probably don’t have much to spy on.

          A few possibilities:

          • It’s spying on the actions of the Danish government, not the Greenlandic population. For example, if/where it’s stationing troops in the island, if there’s weak/exploitable points of the economic activity there, etc. OR
          • It’s trying to gauge if it can dump some American civilians there to eventually claim popular support for USA annexation. Kind of like Brazil did against Bolivia in 1899~1903. OR
          • It’s all a big ruse and USA is trying to redirect the attention of its population towards the exterior, while the interior is a mess. Like Argentina did in 1982 (Falklands War).

or even a mix of those. I’m conjecturing, mind you, so take those with a grain of salt.

Greenland should, now hear me out, lean in and offer their new potential American overlords their most famous traditional delicacy for the delight and happiness of the ruling party: Hákarl
