minus-squaresmeg@feddit.uklinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up37·1 month agoThe escape velocity of the moon is 2.38km/s (compared to 11.2km/s on Earth) so you’d have to be throwing it pretty hard
minus-squaremkwt@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up7·1 month agoEven if you went to some asteroids that have low escape velocities, a spacecraft still has all of the mass of a spacecraft–probably a few 1000 kg. So you probably can’t get it going fast enough, even if you can escape yourself by jumping.
minus-squarezedgeist@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up8·1 month agoI wish I could escape myself…
minus-squareButteryMonkey@piefed.sociallinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up5·1 month agoHave you tried jumping? Sounds like that may be the ticket!
minus-squareCheeseNoodle@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up3·1 month agoYou could probably gradually get it moving across the surface fast enough to escape though.
minus-squareicelimit@lemmy.mllinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up5·1 month agoMan even a 5.6 is only 0.9km/s. I thought we could give the moon a ring of bullets.
minus-squareTomassci@sh.itjust.workslinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up14·1 month agoNot the moon, but this comic would work on some asteroids.
minus-squareblack_flag@lemmy.dbzer0.comlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up3·1 month agoHow small would it have to be?
minus-squaremarcos@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up8·1 month agoNor can you throw a spaceship around on the Moon. So maybe that cartoon isn’t about the Moon.
minus-squarejballs@sh.itjust.workslinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up8·1 month agoThis comment makes me want to play some Kerbal Space Program again, where you can launch yourself into orbit from Minmus (the 2nd moon) with a jump.
