Despite a last minute push from Donald Trump, GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert kept her name on a discharge petition that would demand the full release of investigative files around convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Boebert is one of four Republicans who signed the bipartisan discharge petition led by GOP Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna of California to force the Justice Department to release all the files.

I mean… there is a non-zero chance she is just looking for a baby daddy for her grandchildren.

But yeah. trump is pissing off all his backers AND the qanons at this point. I am still expecting fuckery (they have a full week to threaten the hell out of every republican in congress) but want to be hopeful that THIS is what turns his base on him entirely and turns vance into a lame duck president.

    Here’s my take.

Anyone who has spent 30 seconds with Trump knows that he’s not going to do anything of the next GOP Presidential candidate. Right now, setting yourself up as anti-Trump, pro-MAGA is a good move.

Boebert and MTG are both playing that game.

Because the point of politicians is to get re-elected. This is why we need minimal education standards and two term limits for everyone elected.

Strong disagree with minimal education standards because those are 100% going to turn out like the literacy requirements did.

Limiting who can vote and who can run for office is always a bad idea. They are rights - not privileges.

I don’t think either of them are smart enough to intentionally play that strategy, but yes, I think these are people who got elected based on certain principles and they stick to what got them elected in the first place. If trump doesn’t adhere to these prunciples, then they will gladly pick MAGA over him. And that does happen to be what is probably a good long-term strategy.

They don’t operate ina vacuum (no matter how much they suck. Ha!)

They have staffers and advisors and they probably talk to some other congresspeople.

        It’s a different game once they’re in.

Exactly. I can’t see this having no component of political strategy and influence.

Trump is going to crash hard once all the horrible stuff he’s (very very likely) done comes out. At which point he’ll be extremely toxic andand anyone “true to MAGA” but seen to have pushed for “the truth” will have good political credit with that base.

But also, I think people like Boeberts or Taylor Greene are true believers, to a strong degree. They believe in lots of absolutely fucked up shit, but they are also unwilling to compromise on defending nonces, which is one thing we can agree on and respect them for.

So, a mix of both I’d say.

Trump pushed her to NOT Sign the Petition to Proof his Innocence because he’s INNOCENT! I’m a MAGA who does their OWN RESEARCH!

Honestly it’s the smartest thing Trump could do. He knows his base won’t care. He can ask why the push wasn’t as strong under Biden. And it’ll hurt the Democrats who were involved more than it will hurt him.

Who does he think will affect him if there’s (more) concrete proof he’s a nonce? He already tried to overthrow the government and the people still voted for him and/or refused to vote against him.

I wouldn’t underestimate the negative reaction of just about anyone to hearing from trusted sources that someone is a child rapist. There’s a certain amount of evidence that would turn Fox and even OAN, and should the MAGA base start hearing confirmation from them…

There’s a reason child abusers are the scummiest scum in prison. Society absolutely does not abide them, so long as society believes it’s true.
