Historic considerations apart, I totally understand not wanting to celebrate holidays with obnoxious people you don’t like… but what’s the problem of doing it with people you actually like?

I like most of my family, actually. It’s just the stress of prepping and running around I don’t mind getting a break from. Will likely hear from or contact a bunch of them as the day rolls on.

Well here’s the kicker. You lot can get together whenever you want. It’s a lot easier, enjoyable, and convenient doing it that way too. Most of all, it’s actually your day, so it means something.

      extremely true.

my immediate family disowned when i came out the closet almost 2 decades ago and it taught me how to enjoy the holidays on my own. we’ve reconciled since then, but i still prefer doing my own thing on the holidays w/o them; in fact i only visit them when i’m too lazy or busy to have my own plans now.

Go to a restaurant alone and look sad on Christmas. We used to give away a lot of meals at the restaurant i worked, on the 24th particularly.

I, too, get to skirt responsibility. Unfortunately it’s because I’m sick.

Upside, I don’t have to pretend to like the parade, and I’m not stuck putting up Xmas decorations at my parents hosue
