I own a few raspberry pis, and sure they are neat, but I don’t think people get that passionate about them. It’s just a little slow computer.

vegan, crossfitter, linux user and rapsberry pi owner walked into the bar, ordered a beer and minded their own business, but dave mortis really had a need to tell us about it.

You know, I’ve never met someone who actively tried to recruit me to veganism, but I’ve seen a lot of people spam vegans with meat pictures in an attempt to “Convert” them.

If you want I can try to put half a minute into an attempt so you can check the box. I can throw in a pitch for flattening eastern germany (bavaria to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) for good measure, if you like.

The fun thing about anecdotes is that they aren’t in any way indicative of the wider world.

Out of all the vegans and vegetarians I’ve met in my life, I think at best maybe 1/4 didn’t spend a protracted amount of time extolling the virtues of their lifestyle. Maybe you don’t consider that an attempt to convert, but a lot of people do. Either way it was annoying.

Conversely, I’ve only ever seen two “omnivores” try to convert someone who wasn’t, and it was a one off joke among friends.

My entire point is that I see these sorts of “well I’ve never encountered a proselytizing [insert group here] person, so that means these stereotypes are just mean and based on nothing!” but all it takes is one person to say “Well I have”.

Beyond that, my anecdotes are as valid as theirs. Which is to say not worth much at all.

your entire point is bullshit. you have no idea how many vegetarians, who did not bother to share their thoughts with you, you met.

As a vegan, raspberry Pi owning Linux user, fuck CrossFit though.

The new stereotype is bouldering 😤

I would be interested if there are any raspberry pi owning non-Linux users. It would sort of seem like the two would go together.

Well, there are two issues. First, Apple doesn’t allow the installation of their OSs on non-Apple hardware, so installing MacOS on Raspberry is at least a licensing issue and hence there’s no project to port MacOS to the Raspberry Pi. Second, Windows OSs are much more resource hungry compared to Linux distros and though there are ways to install Win11 on a pi (though you’d have to tinker a bit more) it would be very slow due to the board’s limited resources and not really worth the effort.

Linux has the best fitting distros for RPi, they are made for each other, and there is no real reason (though just trying for the sake of it is valid, too) to use something else on a Raspberry.

He also never hesitates to mention that he went to school for architecture and is a licensed designer.

Phew, luckily I was a crossfit, Linux using, raspberry pi owning vegetarian. And I made sure everyone knew it so I wasn’t associated with those crossfit, Linux using, raspberrypi owning vegans!

He brings his fixie bike inside with him, announces he’s not ordering anything because he’s straight edge, then asks the barkeep if he has a minute to talk about Jesus.

What do you call someone who only wants to eat the rich and won’t shut up about it? Asking for a friend.
