Reminds me of the original ads for the Sci-Fi Channel. I loved those big shots of Saturn in the sky as a kid, even though they gave me the occasional nightmare.

Saturn is currently about 1 hour 22 minutes away from Earth at light speed. So even if everything moved at light speed, the time it takes for Saturn to learn of its victory, followed by the time it would take to move here at light speed, would mean that in the 3rd panel, the people are just waiting there looking at the sky for almost 3 hours.

Its “grand entrance” must have been staged, having sent word in advance in order to give Saturn sufficient time to arrive.

You know, now that I think about it, I begin to question whether that is actually the real Saturn hanging there in the sky…🪐

If Saturn gets that close, its gravity is probably going to tear the Earth apart

The video on YouTube that shows what it would look like if Saturn was on the moon’s orbit is absolutely terrifying.

Closest thing to the video I remember that I could find. The one I saw had all the different planets orbit into view and while many of them caused temporary nightfall, when Saturn did it the whole planet and its rings shifted in color as soon as it got dark and it was just pants-wettingly spooky.

          Big Ring Energy

Also, have you seen the movie Home? One could very easily argue about whether it’s a good movie, but there’s a scene in it where a hostile alien ship flies into Saturn’s ring and has a very visually impressive impact.

Again, not making any comment on the quality of the movie in general … That scene struck me as so cool that a screenshot of it has been my wallpaper on my work computer for nine years.

edit: I don’t run a public webserver anymore, but at the time I did and was unaware of things like nextcloud and copy party, so I had to save the screenshot to my webserver to get it to my work computer to use as the background.

Grace Jones would still easily win this.

Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

The rules are simple:

  • The post can be a single image, an image gallery, or a link to a specific comic hosted on another site (the author’s website, for instance).
  • The comic must be a complete story.
  • If it is an external link, it must be to a specific story, not to the root of the site.
  • You may post comics from others or your own.
  • If you are posting a comic of your own, a maximum of one per week is allowed (I know, your comics are great, but this rule helps avoid spam).
  • The comic can be in any language, but if it’s not in English, OP must include an English translation in the post’s ‘body’ field (note: you don’t need to select a specific language when posting a comic).
  • Politeness.
  • AI-generated comics aren’t allowed.
  • Adult content is not allowed. This community aims to be fun for people of all ages.
