In other words, to remove the president using the impeachment process, the forces of sanity would need to muster a two-thirds majority in the Senate. To remove the president under the 25th Amendment, they would need to do it in both houses.

There was no escaping it. He was deranged—grandiose, egomaniacal, narcissistic, the sort of man who would get obsessed with acquiring Greenland and blow up America’s most sacred international commitments to get it done. The sort of man who would respond to not getting the Nobel Peace Prize by declaring he was no longer solely interested in peace. The sort of man who would take the medal from its rightful winner and feel no shame at the theft.
I predict Vance, et. al. will be doing an effective 25nd Amendment move after the midterms–not needing to actually invoke it but threatening trump with it if he doesn’t play along with their plans. There are lots of ways to manipulate him with both carrots and sticks. Assuming repubs keep their majority in Congress, (see the next paragraph), trump will conveniently have a health crisis that forces him to “retire” next year. Of course he might go ahead and have one without help anyway, but this is assuming he doesn’t.
The wild card is how the midterms will go, which I can’t predict. Will they be free and fair “normal” elections? I seriously doubt it. Lots of red states have one or two blue House seats. Repub-majority red states have been working on stacking election boards and judges ever since 2020 and they’re ready. They’ll make sure those blue House seats turn red, no redistricting is even needed, just manipulation of the voting process–purging the voter rolls on the front end and not counting as many ballots as needed on the back end.
I’ve been expecting Vance to invoke the 25th two years and one month into Trump’s term for a while. I think it was really telling that nobody wanted to be Trump’s runningmate until his dementia got obviously much worse, then everyone raced to get it, including Vance.
Yep, the only reason I say they’ll more likely just threaten him with it to make him “voluntarily” step down is that his followers would rebel against Vance if he outright power ousts him with the 25th.
But I think he (actually they, the whole cadre that are running things) will go ahead and actually invoke it if trump refuses to cooperate. It’ll just take more work–either a propaganda effort of video clips, rumors, leaks of “doctor reports” and “off-camera incidents”, etc. to convince his cult that he really is unable to continue, or more likely something might just “unfortunately happen” to him. They just have to make sure the magats don’t smell a rat and turn on them.
Oh, and the reason to wait until beginning of next year is so Vance will be able to run for two more full terms.

In the US we have the Second Amendment. The fascists have been the ones screaming and yelling about the Second Amendment, but the truth is that all Americans have the right.
Owning a gun isn’t enough. Driving to Cabela’s and picking up a vermin killing .22 is not enough. You should buy a proper rifle, a pistol, and a knife. (Bonus points for a shotgun) Then you need to train with said rifle, pistol and knife. Go to a range and shoot. Look for local self defense/hand to hand combat with knife classes and train.
I am not advocating for violence…far from it. But I am advocating for knowledge because owning a weapon and not knowing how to use it is a recipe for disaster.
PS: If you can afford it, buy suppressors. Especially for your rifles. Suppression for the common citizen isn’t about stealth like in the movies, it is about protecting your hearing. Guns are LOUD. Much louder than you expect.
Most people who’ve never fired a gun vastly overestimate how far they can accurately shoot too. As someone who teaches newcomers let me just say a newcomer who can keep their bullets on target even at just 15 meters is rare. And with pistols, forget it, most newcomers need to start within 5 meters to be able to see where all their shots landed.
I think it’s better to leave the knife. Learn how use and to defend against batons/Tonfas/clubs. „Law“ enforcement uses sticks and guns, because they are relatively easy to use without putting yourself in too much danger.
Yeah… Pretty much anyone proclaiming to be an expert knife fighter is just a chud playing make believe.
The only way to win a knife fight is to be the only person with a knife, and you really don’t need a lot of lessons about stabbing an unarmed victim.
I work in my state’s only trauma 1 ward… Attacking someone with a knife is not a quick or effective way to kill someone. If the other person has a knife as well, you are also going to get stabbed a bunch.
Pepper spray is what I would put in a kit instead. I would argue having some kind of cutting edge is a good tool to have, just not for self defense.

I maintain that the best possible scenario is that he dies of natural causes, on live television. They don’t get a scapegoat, the cult of personality disintegrates and they are unable to retain masses of voters because of it.

He may be deranged, and he probably is, but Trump does not want Greenland for spurious reasons. Pretending that this whole situation is unfolding just because he’s Ol’ Mr. Sillypants is exceedingly dangerous. Trump wants Greenland because Putin wants Trump to take it, and the inevitable fallout will also lead to the US withdrawing from NATO. As it stands now, Putin cannot pass his navy through into the north Atlantic without it easily being blockaded by NATO from the coast of Greenland to the coast of Norway.
Having half of that stretch of ocean conveniently occupied by nearby US ships instead which is conveniently currently nonagressive with Russia would be very beneficial for Putin.

From what I’ve read, that only applies if the President is incapacitated (presumably temporarily). He can re-assume the office just by saying that he’s ready to return to the job. Removing a President who claims he’s able to hold the office require a 2/3 majority of both the House and Senate.

I thought that too. But there’s a provision for the cabinet-plus-VP to say “nuh-huh” after he claims he’s fit, at which point Congress decides even if the President objects.
It has to be approved by a supermajority of both houses of Congress.
