Given that the Supreme Court has ruled that presidents can do anything with impunity, I suggest the Biden take this opportunity to execute trump as an official act based on national security and protecting the homeland against fascists.

Seriously though… It was argued that, yes, a president can eliminate political opponents with impunity. I surely will be mistaken here, but if Biden wanted to, he could take out trump, and the entire top of the Maga movement and he would be untouchable.

It would circle into a civil war, probably, but the Maga crowd would get exactly what they wanted, just the other way around.

On a slightly less funny interpretation of this: so it seems that trump has calmed down the “kill the opponents” rhetoric after his victory, but many of his crowd haven’t. I seriously worry for political opponents, journalists and comedians in the US as soon as trump and his cronies rise to power. I seriously expect many to go to jail, and some, indeed, to just disappear or get the good ol’ “walked too close to a window” treatment.

So I’m actually wondering if Biden should just take out trump, just for self defense because there is an actual non zero chance that trump and cronies will get their revenge on Biden and Kamela.

Naturally. I mean, if we’re doing this authoritarian thing now as the electorate has indicated that it wants, might as well be a less racist, less stupid authoritarian.

          • Yeah, I mean there is a clear authoritarian mandate for the United States. Biden should just act on it.

People want to vote for locking up their political opponents, and a president that enjoys absolute immunity? Let’s fucking go.

JD Vance (and Peter Thiel, David Sacks, Elon Musk) is not a replacement I would welcome in the event of Trump no longer being able to be president.

The most likely scenario is Trump/Vance are still selected by the Electoral College but on election day Vance is sworn in as President, without a Vice President. Vance then goes through the standard process (Senate approval) to select a Vice President.

Technically it is possible for the Electoral College to select Vance and whomever Vance selects as VP. Since Republicans (will) have control of the Senate the odds of this scenario is slightly increased just to save everyone time. However given the various Electoral College deadlines and the fact that Vance would likely want time to select a VP, this option isn’t likely.

Now if Trump had died 4 weeks before election day and Vance had clearly selected a new VP already, then the second scenario is more likely.

Joe, you’ve got the chance to do something extremely funny here.

That’s right. I’m openly advocating for it, right here.

Joe Biden should dump a big ol’ bowl of mashed potatoes on Trump’s head.

The last time a sitting president embarrassed him, he escalated by running for president.

Mashed potatoes head Trump might just hit the big nuke button.

With Trump, it actually stands a chance.

Putin has Trump in his hands largely due to hollow flattery. There’s some material rewards too, but relatively paltry compared to how much Trump stands with Putin. He also seems pretty fond of Kim Jong Un after actually having met him, and I can promise you all that guy had was flattery, nothing more to offer.

Trump cares about his ego, and that’s pretty much it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that man be anything other than miserable, except when he found out he swept the swing states and win the popular vote. He was elated like never before.

He also knows nothing of loyalty to others. His outright fascist declarations largely stemmed from his loss and sycophants feeding him fascist remedies for the humiliation of admitting he lost. There’s a chance that on the back of a ego boosting win that likely feels much more gratifying, and a whole host of sycophants, he no longer cares to interact with folks like Steve Bannon. He won’t feel like he owes them anytime, because he finds no purpose in reciprocating support after those folks are no longer useful.

Certainly a more precarious situation than if he had lost, but if the narrative that feeds his ego best is that he loves the elections just as they are, then there’s a chance…

      Manners.

It’s called manners and it’s not about the felon rat king so much as Biden’s character as a person.

But yeah, America is generally fucked.

Yeah, he’s someone who will not only sit and have a friendly chat with a Nazi but literally invite them to come do so

Would you have manners toward, say, Hitler? That’s who Democrats constantly told me was running in the election: The next big dictator who will end Democracy As We Know It ™

It was all lies and you know it. Democrats are a loser party that would rather cozy up with Dick Cheney and lose an election than push for a progressive policy agenda

If manners towards 1932 Hitler might have distracted him from what was to come and averted what came next, then sure. Even if it is a long shot, it’s the best chance of the realistic options currently available, and other options may remain practically available, should it come to it.

Of course, even better, if people had flattered his art in 1907.
