    Dear maga shithead:

Just to add insult to injury: any science that might have helped cure/treat you? That is gone too.

And its going to get a lot hotter and lot more expensive for you to live, and managing climate change? That is gone as well.

You fucked us ALL by your stupid choices.

Remember: we treat and help even those who smoke themselves to death while we do it. Empathy is a human quality. By gloating and being cruel, we sink to their level. Even if this women never learns her lesson, please show empathy and help of you can.

I say this as a (perhaps now former) pacivist: Fuck her. I’ll focus the last bit of empathy on the people that didn’t vote to have people ripped away from their families by masked sociopaths cosplaying as police.

What about people who did not want to get vaccinated, wear masks and self-isolate? They should embrace rugged individualists’ moral hazard and agree to sign a responsibility waiver on healthcare related to COVID (or at least get deprioritized triage whenever the services were overwhelmed). It would still suck, because they’d probably get responsible people who they share a space with into hospital…but it would put the onus on them to make a good choice rather than be forced to by the big bad government.

PS: call it a pre-existing condition: “refuses to be treated by modern healthcare”.

yeah was really, really upset during COVID that the idiots literally bringing the risk to our healthcare workers still demanded healthcare from the workers they despised, convinced it was all a hoax by people who’s medical expertise came from late night infomercials.

As tempting as it is and as upset as I am with everyone who voted for Fascism (purposely or due to ignorance), these people need to be compassionately educated rather than jeered at and told “That’s what you get you fucking idiot.”

This is a moment where they might realize the value of the services that the left believes they deserve as a fellow human being. Maybe they’ll finally figure out that the propaganda they’ve been fed isn’t a reliable source of truth.

Honestly, I just don’t give a fuck. Democrats have committed national suicide by endlessly trying to appeal and pander to these conservative fuckwits. Ultimately MAGA are sick rotten people who don’t want to change, don’t want to improve themselves, and are just looking for someone to hurt. The entire core philosophy of MAGA is that other people are responsible for your shitty life, and that your life will be better if we just destroy enough minorities.

The lesson from history is that these people cannot be saved. Hell, the actual historical Nazis? Ten years after the war ended, Nazi popularity was still around where it was when Hitler came to power. The generation that brought Hitler to power never really change their views. They still viewed Germany as the innocent victim, and they still blamed the Jews for their problems. Germany was leveled, divided, and occupied, and these fuckers learned nothing. Politics only improved in Germany when the next generation came up in the shadow of the war. It took generations dying off for attitudes to really change. Hitler’s generation took their hate to their graves.

If even losing WW2 won’t change the mind of a fascist, what will? We call MAGA fascist, but we refuse to actually look at historical fascism and put MAGA in its proper context. If you think you can appeal to MAGA based on compassion or reason, then you really haven’t internalized the concept that MAGA is a fascist movement.

These people are beyond redemption. If there is a literal Hell, every last one of them is going there. They cannot be saved.

Here’s the thing… the people in power right now are trying to make new generations of Nazi fucks out of young people. Continue this insanity.

Gutting education and every fucking system we’ve tried to put in place to help people and show that things can be better. They’re being taught that it isn’t the fault of the rich man who won’t let you take a bathroom break! He’s just trying to scrape by while being robbed by the tax man! If only they’d give him a break then he could afford to pay you better. Really, it’s the fault of your fellow worker because he’s an immigrant, or your neighbor because he’s disabled, or your kid’s friend because he isn’t not masculine enough, or your wife’s fault for selfishly working instead of staying home and raising your boy right…

fuck them. they’re not just stupid, they’re spitefully evil. and they enjoy the suffering of others. i won’t shed a tear for theirs. fuck their entire existence, i hope they know nothing but misery.

You know, I thought that at first. Then I was talking to this coworker who lives in the country on a small farm/homestead (that is a lifestyle choice, not an actual career). And she had absolutely not one iota of compassion or empathy for those people sent to an El Salvador Prison without due process. Her view was that it just was less expensive than detaining them here. Even though I said… but, they won’t ever get out of there, there is not court or deportation back to their country" and she shrugs and says “not our problem anymore.” Heartless Snaggletooth Cunt.

I’ve helped her out a lot more than any orange has the last few months, yet she still spouts about how great he is. Although now with much less enthusiasm, and if you don’t put trumps name in the conversation she sort of comes back to reality a little and can realize that a bill gutting social safety nets to give the 1% a huge tax cut isn’t a fair deal.

you and the (probably fake) twitter post demonstrate the most important part of US politics:

It’s about making sure the right people suffer. Chuds vote for Trump not because they like him particularly, but because it upsets the liberal in their life. When there are consequences, it’s not the role of liberals to meet that suffering with a mutually positive vision for the future, but instead to point and go ner ner you deserve it! And the next time Democrats are in control, it’s the liberals duty to ignore all the longstanding problems and suffering that has continued through every administration, and instead point to the stock market and say But the economy is actually good dummy!

And the most important thing is that we never expect our government to do anything but dole out suffering to this or that group of people.

refusing to aid and abet fascists in my community has nothing to do with the government’s decisions on who to hurt or help, it’s a personal choice. something most americans seem to have forgotten how to do, which is the real most important part of american politics.

i don’t disagree with the sentiment, but the context you bring it up in is sussy.

But if all this lady did was vote for Trump, that’s not really enough. That’s barley one action, from over half a year ago. Less than that, if its not even in a swing state. If people are showing regret after seeing whats been happening, fuck I don’t know maybe you grow a bigger coalition with honey than with vinegar.

Voting for Trump is plenty. Make Trumpists suffer. The warning signs were all there. He ran a tabloid style ad talking about transgender surgeries in prison. That’s how desperate they were to fearmonger. They said immigrants were eating people’s cats and dogs. And 77 million people gladly lined up to vote for that naked hatred.

Fuck Trump voters. Hope they choke on their next meal.

Perhaps instead of generally hating on Reddit, we be more specific about the negative characteristic we don’t want. Are you specifically comolaining about fake content?

The problem is that while I recognize this is fake, it’s a satisfying circle jerk (or is that what you are specifically complaining about?), and is one of the possible answers to “why did they vote like that?”

Early Reddit was more thoughtful and the communities were smaller, Lemmy theoretically could be the same, but a big problem IMO is that all social media has blended together and people are sharing stuff they see on Twitter and Facebook on every other platform.

Social media hadn’t been so homogenized during old Reddit, and it was a lot less acceptable to cross pollinate between social media platforms.

The old Internet is just dead, in general. You would have to ban links like this that are just “other social media” on Lemmy. Otherwise, there aren’t really any walls between the communities at all.

        It already is Reddit.

I can’t get people to understand that the people who cloned Reddit to make Lemmy didn’t make something different, they made a shitty copy. There is clearly no innovation regarding solving the fundamental underlying, unaddressed problems of democratic social media.

Yeah the back end is slightly different, but from the end user perspective, it’s a link dump filled with morons.

Until we move to a merit-based system of commenting and posting, we’re going to be going in circles looking at stupid memes and misinformation and ill-considered opinions from idiots.

Clone of reddit with a little bit of 4chan edge from feeling antisocial and anti authoritarian in here as well.

I’m not sure how merit based would work but I still think a public shame board of recent bans with their comment or post that got them banned with how long would do a lot to make it more obvious what the mods do and who is repeat offending.

I mostly just try to vote on what is relevant to the conversation but it’s a mess on all the social media sites these days.

True. Seems like nothing has changed since the BBS days, that’s why I use the language of “fundamental problems” going unsolved.

The “problem” is huge and totally non-trivial.

There was this whole phase of Lemmy where it was looking like an alternative instead of a clone.

So maybe Lemmy was almost like a clone of Schwartz-era reddit, before becoming more of a transplant of post-2014 or even Spez era reddit.

There definitely was a @UltraMAGALady account on xitter that was deleted within the last 24h, but because it was deleted I’m not able to verify this specific post. It does seem very likely that it was real, though.

Yes, the account existed, but it was brand new and had no followers (according to the same thread on reddit). Therefore it seems unlikely that the screenshotter would have randomly stumbled upon it.

        Questions would be:

Was this a sincere account or satire?

Even if sincere, did that post actually exist?

It just seems a bit too much to believe someone would admit it is just for the lulz at making liberals upset. Maybe they admit to it being a bonus but to say it is the point… Particularly in a scenario where that admission very explicitly amounts to a self own…

Given the account existed and was deleted - ostensibly after going viral - we can surmise that it was not satire. We can also make an educated guess that the post did exist since the account was deleted after going viral.

For the last part, if you don’t personally have thousands of firsthand experiential anecdotes of encountering people exactly like that, I genuinely envy you and your hygge bubble. A staggering number of American Republicans make “owning the libs” their whole personality. This is a natural, inevitable outcome of ur-fascism’s enemy creation propaganda pipeline.

Maybe you shouldnt engage with the post then, since thats why this garbage gets posted in the first place. If the engagement numbers dropped for these types of posts they’d stop posting them, but here it is with a thousand up votes a d many comments. Its almost like the post is deliberately controversial or something…

An anti AI person would not have said “nice use of ai”. Those people would have said " nice picture but I’d rather you did the ugliest pen and paper drawing yourself than used AI". They NEVER concede a win to AI. I understand your frustration

What is the ‘win to AI’? I would rather a pen and paper shitty kindergarten looking drawing than a ‘beautiful’ AI image, that is a very shallow viewing of the issue. No one disagrees that AI can create “good” looking images.

Ai enables people to express what they want. That’s the win. I can’t draw this. If I did it would look so ugly I would not post it. So AI was an enabler. That’s a win for AI.
