New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani said Monday that he reached out to the White House to arrange a meeting with Donald Trump, signaling a cooling of tensions between the two leaders after months of harsh rhetoric.
“My team reached out to the White House to fulfill a commitment I made to New Yorkers over the course of this campaign," Mamdani told reporters at a food pantry in the Bronx, adding that the proposed meeting was part of a pledge to voters to “address the affordability crisis that is pushing so many of them out of the city.”
"We are seeing his actions and that of his administration in Washington leading to the exact opposite effect for New Yorkers, and I will go to make the case to the president and to anyone, frankly, that these are the kinds of things we need to change if we want to make it easier for New Yorkers and for Americans to afford the day-to-day necessities of their life,” Mamdani said.
He needs to be consulting a panel of psychologists about how to best manipulate Trump.
The man is old, confused and likes to lash out when he doesn’t feel worshipped. I feel like his untreated (but well documented) pathologies leave him quite vulnerable to a mental health professional.
Its not like you can manipulate him into giving you some kind of amazing treat, but convincing him to leave you alone would be a massive win.
He’s expecting a rejection by Trump. He he looks good getting it or he looks fantastic pissing on the president of the United States from his newly elected position in spite of everything Trump has done, putting his powerlessness and vulnerability on full display.

If Mamdani can pull off the craziest reverse psychology to get his agenda using federal money, in return for a gaudy golden facade with which Trump can bemuse himself… that would be a great turn of events. New Yorkers would be totally aware that this is Mamdani’s platform but go along with it.

Politics and the intertwined relationship between one of the most profitable cities on Earth and the federal government to which it belongs don’t stop just because said federal government is headed by a pedo-clown. Better to get ahead of it and make it known you’re trying to get work done.
It’s really smart of Mamdani too, he knows Trump is going to make a performative circus of it instead of just meeting and doing business, and he can use that to solidify support among New Yorkers. Mamdani has huge challenges ahead, winning the election was actually the easy part.
To highlight their hypocrisy by showing the world that Republicans don’t actually care to help the public. They just want to enrich themselves.

Zohran is not a dumb guy, and he’s going to have a lot of smart people wanting to be on his team.
He won’t be doing this without a solid plan.
It might be he’s trying to seem super dull to Trump so he moves onto someone else. Maybe he wants a big public show of him attempting diplomacy and being rebuffed, or maybe he wants to offer some kind of Tribute.
Trump has a lot of money tied up in NY. Maybe there’s something Zohran can do to make himself seem “useful” rather than a good target to throw poo at for attention.
I am guessing Zohran will be able to point at Trump’s words, and say “He lied about caring for New Yorkers. Support me on XYZ to make sure things get better.”
If Zohran is truly progressive, he will have to deal with ICE and other instruments of Trump’s will. That means being able to rile up New Yorkers to take action.

This will not go well for him. This is a bad move, fucking ICE will be waiting to take him off to parts unknown. Or they will find a way to make him look bad and Trump look good. Realize the powers really in charge aren’t going let him influence shit. Mark my words nothing good comes from speaking with Trump. They might even threaten him to drop some of his ambitious plans and settle for less or else. He won’t be turning Trump around on anything because the truth is Trump isn’t in charge in the background.

Being afraid of interacting with them is what they want. Don’t let them win before anything even happens. To use your example, if Trump did shoot Mamdani on 5th Avenue then it is our responsibility as citizens to respond appropriately. If we can’t decide that something like that is a red line then we might as well stop talking about resistance in any form. Don’t go down that path.
They wouldn’t do this when the better option for them is to make Mamdani’s ambitions for New York as hard as possible to bring to fruition. Even if they only hinder him a bit, any inability at all from Mamdani to do every single thing he wants to do (and things they claim he wants to do) will see relentless coverage in the right wing media (and likely also some from liberal media) in order to paint it as a “failed project” and how “unrealistic socialism is.” That serves them far better than just disappearing the guy

He’s beloved in the city that contains wall st. If there’s protests/riots there, no way the stock market doesn’t reflect it.
