Funny how polarized the comments are.

Going by their track record, season will either be quite good or really bad. There will be no in between, and I’m fine with that… best it doesn’t go on as a mediocre zombie.

They did pretty well for The Expanse and Fallout. But don’t let this get in the way of a good meme…

The Expanse is the one show I’m impressed by

of course, they then cancelled it. and every Amazon show I’ve seen since has been shot, notably Wheel of Time and Rings of Power

“They” didnt do The Expanse. “They” bought it up after it was cancelled by syfy. “They” didnt do that well with the three seasons they had. And Fallout is a fucking mess, that no one seems to care about lore and narrative wise.

The lord of the rings and wheel of time are 100% Amazon things. Citadel is another one. And they all fucking suck.

And the showrunner of the new Stargate show, is the same guy who did the sequel series for Quantum Leap. Which was also trash.

This will be another in a long line of nerd franchises, that will be turned into putrid trash by someone who either doesnt get what made it special, or someone who wants to make it something else altogether.

Heres the check list you know its already going to have:

      Strong diverse female character lead.

LGBT focused side character for the express purpose of virtue signal instead of allowing them to be an actual character.

Strong female teal’q stand in, who is even “stronger” than Teal’q.

Bad guys will be symbolic representations of modern political pish.

Every character will speak only in Marvel style quips.

Someone is going to say “Chevron X locked” with dramatic effect… Because of course, theres going to be a new never before known Chevron that was found by strong diverse female character thats smarter than Danial Jackson…

Token white guy will be a moron or evil.

Because in modern hollywood, its message first, adventure second. They cant just create characters anymore, they create social media talking points that walk around saying social media things. Because thats what heroes do… in new hollywood. And then the audience leaves in droves, and the franchise gets shelved again only this time its got massive stain on it.

This will suck because the focus wont be on making Stargate. It will be social media pish in a Stargate wrapper.

Actually, its a mix of opinion and observation. The issue is going to be whether or not you differentiate between the issue of using “diverse” people for personal gain/social media engagement and their inclusion in media. Since its a big issue in the ongoing culture wars, Im going to guess that Im seen as a massive bigot by some section of the peanut gallery that cant think for themselves. Which is always fun.

It was already a dead franchise. Worst case it’ll stay that way. But I’m not without hope, as not all Amazon adaptations are bad, e.g. The Expanse or The Boys.

On the other hand I don’t know how to feel about Emmerich being involved. I think he always disliked the direction the series took after his (very different and IMO inferior) movie.

SG-1 was great and dwindling towards the end. They ended there to at least stop when they were goo. You could see the effects of modern hollywood creeping in those last 2 seasons. Atlantis was already embracing modern hollywood, and Universe was the death knell to the franchise.

They should’ve left it dead. Now they’re going to try and raise a zombie, put make-up and lipstick on it, then kill it so that newer generations can remember Stargate as “oh, that shitty series?”.

      *Aluminium hat on*

They are reintroducing it to try and capitalise on the “it was aliens” meme. They are hoping to get a lot of viewership from the fringe and conspiracy theorists that will truly believe the pyramids were landing platforms for alien motherships.

Not just Emmerich, but Devlin as well. I’m worried about this. They tried to reboot the movies in 2014 and pitched a TV show in 2019. They’re both on the record as being salty about SG-1, and I understand why they were salty about it but it’s well beyond them now and after all these years, they’re gonna come in totally play ball, just like that? And this while Malozzi and Wright are “consulting producers,” meaning they give money to the production to get their names on it but they will be largely ignored. I hope I’m wrong, but I’m worried.

Imo, the expanse was excellent partly because of casting and the fact that the authors were so involved with it. Also, had what like 3 seasons before it hit Amazon? I still wish we got to see an adaptation of the final 3 books but I’m still glad we got what we did, definitely up there for me both tv and book wise.

It went from “decent” to “OK yeah this is good” from s1 to s2, and I really wish I got to see where s3 would have gone. I really wanted to know what happened to Eli and those three years to make the jump.

Shame we didnt get to find out.

So this is the thing… Universe is ready for a continuation basically whenever. Here’s how:

Eli got the last pod working and they went into stasis. However, due to the age of the ship, the stasis didn’t keep them from aging. Unfortunately, some of the crew (whose actors didn’t want to come back) died or are stuck in stasis. A side effect of what Eli did to get the last stasis chamber working also used a ton of energy, so the ship had to conserve power getting to the new galaxy (hence the extra time taken). As they’re starting up the ship again in a new galaxy, they discover that it’s been looted. Everything inconvenient to the production (such as the ancient communication stones) has been taken.

If the production wants, Earth has the power now to dial up the Destiny, but since Destiny can’t dial back, any trip is one-way. This way they can get modern tech and stuff (and have video calls with Earth while the Stargate is open), but they’re still decently cut off. (Also, food and stuff are no longer an issue as the SGC can simply send packages through whenever the dial the gate.) This does also allow some new cast members as long as the have a sufficiently compelling “go on a one way trip” story. Maybe one of them even got special dispensation to bring their cat.

I have only watched about 3 seasons of the boys (and read the entire comic) and I think the show is better than the comic.

The story is very different, and for the better. In the comic, the protagonist is always Hughie, but the main focus of the story is Butch and how he kind of “shapes” Hughie. Home Lander and the seven are a lot more of a plot device than anything else and three of the seven almost never do anything, this is because the real villain is the concept itself of a company like Vaught. All of this is fine, if that’s your cup of tea, my problem is that everything else is kinda just thrown there just to be splattery and outrageous without much rhyme or reason. There’s a lot of very dull monothematic characters that appear in their arc and then pop up once in a while.

In the show every character is a lot more developed, instead of just Hughie and Butch. And their journeys are a lot more intertwined with one another, and the story itself is a lot more complex. I think the worst part of the show is when it tries to wink at the comic fans and it just looks out of place, while swooshing over the head of who didn’t read the comic (e.g. “take away that …😉 Love sausage 😉😉… from me”; “hello …😉 Vic…toria 😉😉”)

I guess they want to insinuate that Andromeda killed Mass Effect. While Andromeda certainly got a studio killed, the game itself is actually pretty good in my opinion.

I enjoyed playing Andromeda, in fact I think gameplay-wise it’s the most fun of any mass effect. But story and character wise it was so mediocre that very shortly after finishing it I couldn’t tell you who anyone was or any of the things that happened.

It might have been better off with a different spin-off name that made it clear it was in the same universe but wasn’t really Mass Effect, because it kinda misses the mark for what those games were about.
